6 Month Pre-Op Diet Seems To Taking Forever! Oh And I'm New :)

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I am a true newbie. I have been secretly watching this site from afar but was to afraid to join. I am currently in my 3rd month of my pre-op diet (for insurance purposes) and it seems to be taking sooooo long. Some words of encouragement would be great! This site is inspirational :)

I feel your pain - I completed the 6 month nutrition counseling and I got so frustrated. I think once we make the decision to change by the way of the band we want it instantly! It will go by quickly. My story is a little more frustrating... after the six month diet, I had to wait the 2 weeks for insurance approval. Then I had to wait 3 weeks for an appt. to see the Dr. again to schedule surgery. I HAD to go in to schedule it... well, once I got there they told me I couldn't have it done until June!! With my schedule, June is the only month that I can't do it - so... I'm now scheduled for July 10th. I'm so discouraged. I feel like this is all just a waste of time.

Sorry, words of encouragement turned into me ranting... :)

The six months did go fast though - maybe we'll be banded about the same time!

That sucks :( Can you lose weight now freely? I know with my insurance I was fine to start losing weight immediately because my surgeon only submits the beginning weight. I would take the opportunity to kick butt and get a head start :)

I'm in month two and while it seems to be taking forever, I'm kinda liking the pace at which I can get appointments done. I feel like if I didn't have to wait I would rush, rush, rush to get it done and be frazzled.

Welcome. :)

I know how you feel. I just finished my 6 months but in hindsight I am glad I had that time to start making small changes -- giving up pop, exercising more, and just getting my head around the whole thing. It will fly by. Hang in there!

You have point all I want to do is go go go! Maybe we will be banded around the same time! It would be nice to have a cohort of bandsters so to speak :)

I felt the same way back in November when I started my 6 months but 4/21 is my last visit with my nutritionist :) like someone told me on here, the 6 months go by faster then what u think it will lol even my nutritionist can't believe that this is my last visit :) in 9 months I've lost 48 pounds but in the 6 months seeing the nutritionist I've only lost 17 of the 48 pounds lol. U can definitely do it and just focus on the changes u need to make which is what I did. Plus doing the food journal every day helped also :) good luck

Hi! I was just banded on this past Tues. and I know the 6 months of waiting seems like forever. I just tried to go about my everyday life and not think about it. I did get into an exercise routine, some of which I will pick back up next week. I really did not concentrate on losing wt during that 6 months. I joined Weight Watchers, exercised, and saw my internist monthly. I really only lost about 12# but my endurance is greatly increased due to the exercise routine. You will feel better before surgery and your healing will be quicker. When I look back, the time really flew. Hang in there, enjoy your everyday life, and it'll be here before you know it! I had thought my surgery would be the end of April or first of May, but received a call from the surgeon's office on April 2nd saying I had been approved and that they had a cancellation on the 10th if I wanted the slot. I actually hesitated a second because I had not mentally prepared myself for having it that quick. Just make sure you have everything in place before you are finished with your 6 months. I had to order Protein and have it shipped quickly, run to the store to purchase stuff for full and Clear liquids, rush to my pre-op visit with the surgeon and to preadmission testing and for labs. The 6 months is a good time to use to get mentally prepared also and to prepare your family for the changes.

So far, it's been a breeze since Tuesday. The worst part has been the pain at the port site. I don't even realize I have the other puncture sites. I did not have the post-op gas pain in my shoulder that is common and I have not been hungry so far. I even walked my little dog this morning and feel great. I'm considering cooking dinner for my family tonight too.

Good luck and let me know how you are doing. I'm here whenever you want to talk. Just hang in there!

Debbie

Congrats on your weight loss that's awesome! It is encouraging to hear that the time will pick up. I am attending a lapband seminar this weekend in hopes of being encouraged :) When are you getting banded?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
