Which Pre-Op Diet Is Best??

Recommended Posts

Which pre-op diet have you all decided to go for?

I'm finding it really difficult to choose a liver-shrinking diet and starting to worry I won't be ready for surgery on 29th March... I know I'm being irrational!! :D

I've managed to lose 6lbs on a restrictive diet with loads of exercise but I need something more specific for pre-op now... please HELP! :D

hmmmm.... You mean I had a choice!!! hahaha......I think for most of us the doctor decided for us. I'm on two Protein Shakes a day and a lean cusine for dinner. It was rough the first 3-4 day but now on day 9 not so bad. and it is nice to see the scale move almost daily. I'm done 18 pounds 8 are from starting the diet.

I've basically been given this milk and yoghurt diet sheet which doesn't seem healthy to be having over two weeks... I know, who am I to be questioning a doctor?!! :D

I keep hearing people mentioning Protein shakes, but I have absolutely no idea what these are or where I can buy them!

Well done both on the weight loss! Good luck for the op waitingpatiently! :D

I would follow your doctor's instruction. My pre-op diet was nothing but skim milk and no-calorie Clear liquids for 2 weeks. Not something anyone could live on indefinitely, but the pre-op diet is temporary and short terms, so no matter how restrictive it seems, your dr assigned it for a reason. Milk and yogurt are actually fairly high in Protein and low in fat (if you choose fat-free or 1%) so it's not as unhealthy as it seems. You can do it for a couple of weeks, and when you look back, you'll be pretty darned proud of yourself!

The one that is best is the one that works for you!

The Protein shakes are like lighter life shakes. Lots of Protein (usually whey protein), a bit of Fiber, low calorie, with lots of added Vitamins.

Protein powders and drinks can be bought just about anywhere from the health food store to Walmart. They are usually in the pharmacy area. powders are just that a powder you can mix with liquids and drink......no one would ever say they are delicious...but most people can find one the can tolerate. unjury makes a unflavored mix that can be added to everything. But I think you can only get it be ordering on line.....I have used it and its pretty good. My favorite is the New Whey...I mix half a shot (2oz) with a crystal light and blend with lots of ice....just like an iceey!!! but with 90cals/21protein/1carb.

There are alway premade Protein Drinks........I haven't found one I would spend money on yet. I would just rather mix my own.

I would ask your doctor about whether they want you to add Protein Powder. As for yogurt Greek style has A LOT more Protein. I buy low fat Chobani that have fruit and add splendra because it tends to be more sour than regular yogurt.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
