FIRST: You did not runi anything. I am amazed you were able to drink that much so soon, but everyone is different. Take it slow with fluids, the last thing you want is to throw-up and risk your band slipping.

SECOND: You have been filled with gas, have lot's of swelling in your abdomen, and have retained lot's of fluids soooooooooooo weight is going to be up a bit. Weigh when you feel like it not when somone else wants you too.

THIRD: I mean no disrespect here............get your husband educated on just what the band is.........a tool, a procedure, not a MIRACLE weight loss solution. It will take both of you to be successful in this journey. While he is eating his chicken dinner you will be eating broth, Jello, and Protein Shakes the first few weeks. He needs to support you, be positive and not critical. (I am not saying he is, I am just saying we need someone with a positive vs negative support mindset in our corner. The journey is difficult enough!

My surgeon suggested 30min/6oz of Fluid. My first day post-op, 3/10 it was all I could do to get 3oz/6hrs LOL

I am on post-op day 7, yesterday was the first day I managed to get my full amount of Protein in. So it is a slow process, One Day at a time, One Step at a time.

This forum is fabulous for support and good information.

WE CAN DO THIS TOGETHER.

Thanks guys, i may have worded it badly because I'm still drugged. I honestly think he is just excited for me, he chose to do the liquid diet with me two weeks ago and we have been getting on the scale together regularly and logging it in the My Fitness Pal (great app for those with Droid or iPhone). After I re-read my post it does sound like I meant he forced me. I love it that you guys stuck up for me though!

That one thing is about all I have done other than sipping on Water, I do look forward to mushy phase though. I'm not a big Jello fan.

Have you ever made Jello shots? Without being at home with my recipe book I can tell you that you replace liquid with Isopure or another Protein Drink that is not a shake (gross!). I am pretty sure the recipe book also shows a way to make it with powder. I'll find it when I get home.

I haven't done this yet, but i was going to mix the sf jello with unflavored Protein mix by Unjury (dissolves almost clear) in a ratio of 2:1 . as for the liquid I would just combine the amount of Water it calls for in each and reduce it slightly by a couple tablespoons to make sure it sets up. You can also consider some of the diet juices as liquids. like if you were making grape sf jello use the diet grape juice as the liquid instead of water it will help add flavor that might have been lost by adding the protein powder.--Just a thought

Got in 1/2 of Protein Shake and 1/2 bottle of Water in so far. I start mushies, very happy about that. Back to work on sunday I work 12 hrs shifts standing I'm scared can hardly stand 2 hrs much less 12 hrs. Tryin to get into an exercise routine mostly walking to get prepared. Scars are healing well no leakage or redness.

To those banded:

How often are you getting on the scale? I figure I will weigh in once a week just to see if I have progressed. The scale has not been my friend in the past so kinda skeptical about it now.

I weighed every day. Ive lost between .75 and 1 lbs each day post op. Im gonna lay off the scale for a while though.

I got mine yesterday so I'm not there yet! I've got a few weeks to go, but its amazing that 3oz of broth and I'm feeling satisfied.

As I stated before, I was banded on march 13th. The night before I went to a support group and everyone in there was gastric and bashing the band.....awful way to go into surgery but I want to prove them wrong! My question, when will the pressure I feel near my diaphragm and chest bone go away?

My Dr defined mushies as anything you can mash with a fork or put in a blender to puree. My mushies are mashed potatoes, refried Beans with melted cheese, pudding and greek yogurt... (Those are the only things I have tried so far. I am allowed grits, cream O wheat, cottage cheese, etc but I do not like them :( )

Its definetely anything you can mash with a fork. Soft scrambled eggs, tuna fish, baked fish, mashed potatoes, grits, chicken salad, chicken in a can with light mayo mashed well or use food processor. I can have cooked veggies, soft fruit mashed (melon, canteloupe, bananas), baby food and potted meat. But I must say this beats the clear and full liquids, plus it gives you some strength. I was so weak today is my best day yet. Start solids next week but probably stay on soft since fill coming up soon.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
