yep.. i have exactly the same thoughts and worries. like the dr said' date=' its only a tool that we use. i was thinking this morning about the initial weight loss that happens after surgery, with most people. i read somewhere that the sudden weight loss jolts the body into ''famine mode"" and so it starts to function on far less carbs etc. this is what worries me a lot. ive been on Atkins years ago, tried to get into ketosis and it was very hard to even do that. i was using ketone sticks to register it in the urine. so, my body is super efficient at conserving when it has to. I have to lose about 80 - 90 lbs, which is a lot. At the moment, knowing my history, im feeling rather scared that it wont work with me either. Perhaps with the diet afterwoods, being able to stagger the Protein intput, carb input? so there is variation there and it fools the body?? what do you all think?/ im certainly goign to talk with the dietician on this one.[/quote']

I fee exactly the same....so worried I'll do this whole thing and than nothing will change....but maybe with the whole operation also comes a renewed commitment and attitude towards eating :)

I just want to be healthy And skinny :)

OK, I have 3 more days till my surgery. Lucky for me I am the first one of the day. Bad part of that is I am also prob the farthest away from the hospital.... ;) So I have to be there at 6am means we have to leave our house at about 4:30am... B) but guess it just means that I will sleep good after the surgery. Hope you are all having a great weekend.

My dietician explained straight after surgery it's really important to have only fluids as the swelling around the band leaves only a small pin hole for fluids to run through until the swelling subsides. And the the band has had a flap of skin of the stomach wall sewn across to anchor it down. These stitches need approx a month to cement in. So imperative that eat correctly so as not to cause vomiting etc no heavy lifting no drinking as hits u like a hammer an wen drop dead drunk u might bust urs stitches vomiting. He told me one woman was told by her dr she could have chicken!! Which of course couldn't get through so she had violent vomiting an needed surgery to 1 reinsert the band that became unloaded an reanchor it down. Far out. He said even a small piece herb or lump in Soup can do it arrgghh so fluids for me lol

Getting banded on Thursday, I'm so nervous! I keep having a fear that I'm going to do this and nothing will change. Mostly I worry that once I'm banded I will still have the same hunger pains but I just won't be able to do anything about it. I think I'm just freaking myself out....anyone else have this problem? Or has anyone already been done that can tell me I'm freaking out for no reason?

Neokal - I feel your pain. I will be banded on 3/20 and I keep having the same thoughts. What if it doesn't work. I think those thoughts are in my mind because of every other diet that i have tried and failed on. So although I know this is the right thing for me....I have that little bit of self doubt. But as my husband put it "this is a diet that you CAN'T give up on" and he is right. I normally start diets on Mondays and by Wednesday I am fizzing out. With the band as a tool...I won't be able to fizzle out quite as easy.

I think we all chose this because we failed everything else and just look at all the successes u can read about on here! We can do this! I was banded on the first of March and have lost 15 lb already. What diet have we ever been able

To do that with?? I am confident that we will succeed

Looking glass. It's good to know the particulars about the swelling. I want some real food so bad after being on that 2 wks pre op diet ... but I'm def not gonna jeopardize my band. I put too much time into it. I'm doing better today I guess. I haven't had any vomiting and I've been sipping very slowly.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
