Getting Close To Lap Band Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi...my name is Kristen, I am 42 years old and super excited to have made my appointment with my surgeon for January 5th. That is kind of "my last step", then we will submit to my insurance company (Blue Care Network) and then schedule my surgery (after two weeks of Protein shakes). I am ready. I first spoke with my family physician in late August and got into the seminar in mid-September. I then got all my stuff (classes, labs, psych eval) together - and completed - and now next is my surgeon visit (with my support person).

I haven't read about anyone on here that uses Blue Care Network...but am hoping for a quick approval. I have spoken to my insurance company and have everything they require so I am hoping for the best!

Looking forward to sharing with others banded around the same time as I.

Hi Tori!

Do you already have your band?

We were able to "taste" the flavors of the shakes at the office when we met for our classes...but I haven't actually been on them YET. My surgeon requires 2 weeks of Protein shakes before surgery...and then basically 2 weeks after (full liquid diet).

I didn't think they were too bad...but honestly, I don't care. I am not trying to enjoy them too much! I guess I am trying to feed my body what it needs...not what I think I want!

Hi there- I too just had my last appointment of my 6 months required doctor's visits. Now I have to do my blood work, then submit to insurance! Then...surgery, I guess. It's nerve wracking- and my DH may be laid off before the end of January, we'll see if we can get everything done before that. I know that technically my insurance (BCBS of TX) has 30 days to approve it...

Good luck to you! It's weird to be so close!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
