How Do I Deal With The Gas In My Core After Lap Band Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I was banded yesterday on 12/13/11 and after my surgery I have this horrible feeling of being bloated. The doctor explained that its the co2 gas they used during surgery to inflate my belly and that my body would absorb in within a day. Well, call me overanxious but it's the morning after and I didn't sleep a wink last night because of this gas. I've also developed a case of the hiccups that are quite painful. Any advice?

It took 3-4 days before I felt relief from the gas in my shoulders.. If you are able to, try going for walks through out the day. On day three I went for a 3 mile walk just hoping I'd work the gas out. Also do some deep breathing. Gas-x strips will help with gas inside the stomach, but not in your core.. It just takes time. Take your pain meds to help you relax.. It gets better everyday. I promise. :)

Walk if you can but its not realistic to say to would be gone in one day, more like 3 or 4 I'd say...hang in there!

Thanks Kelly. I couldn't sleep at all last night so I got on the treadmill for an hour at 4AM. I went to sleep about 7 and when I woke up, I felt a little less gassy.

Walk walk walk!!! Nothing helped me better than walking and walking often. It is very uncomfortable but it will pass after a few days. I swear, I came out looking bigger than I did going in for all of that gas.

Happy recovery!

The gas is not inside your stomach/digestive system so things such as Gas X will have no effect. The gas is within the body cavity and lodges in all sorts of strange places - take the painkillers that your surgeon has prescribed - they are there to help you.

Thanks Elcee. I can feel it moving around. I've been walking all day. Doing random things to try and keep my mind off the pain. I'm picking up my pain killers in a few.

I was extremely bloated after my surgery. I thought it was because I couldn't burp but after 2 days it got a bit better. Not trying to be gross but I couldn't pass gas for over three three days. I guess it depends on how well your body handles the anesthesia. It gets better and soon it will just be a memory. Stay focused and good luck, because it works.I'm down 38lbs since Nov 3rd and just had my first fill yesterday.

I'm with you Brian... these gas pains are AWFUL. It's like rolling thunder in my tummy and sometimes it stops me in my tracks. Went and bought some gas-x tonight. We'll see.

Good luck!! (I was banded on 12/13 too!)

Gas-X seems to be working for me I chewed two yesterday afternoon after getting banded that morning and chewed two more at bedtime woke up a lot less bloated and I can feel what Gas is left moving around inside I would love to pass gas as I hear it is a wonderful feeling after surgery as for the hiccups best cure I know of is to drink some Water through a paper towel take a small glass fill with water lay paper towel over the top and drink through the paper my biology teacher taught us this when I was in high school century's ago and it always worked

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
