How Do I Deal With The Gas In My Core After Lap Band Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on the 16th. I am still having a little gas pains. I do think that walking helps. I have went out a few times the last couple days and walked in the stores. The pain meds have helped me through the night. I just keep saying to myself it will get better. Each day has been better. I have my follow up appointment Thursday. I am looking forward to it. Hope you start feeling better.

I also tried swinging arms in windmill fashion and that seemed to help a bit for me. For Nausea and stomach pain associated with surgery, hot tea with a bay leaf worked great first 3 days post op.... Pain will go away, takes time...

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the helpful info. I just got banded about 8 hours ago. Just starting to feel real again and noticed the gas pressure. I was told by my doctor to walk and stay in motion. I'm not really hurting and don't want to take pain meds if I really don't need to. Has anyone not felt the need to take the pain meds?

I never took the pain meds. They just constipated me and make things worse. I just looked at the pain as temporary and part of the healing process.

I didn't have any kind of pain after surgery. I didn't even get my script filled.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
