Day One Meal Question

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery yesterday and I feel pretty good. Today I am suppose to eat 3 small meals of broth, etc. Then the nurse mentioned drinking a Protein shake and that it may take me all day to get down.

Do I add this shake in addition to the 3 meals, or as a replacement?

Yesterday I drank all day without any issues. Is that normal or should I feel in fullness with liquids?

I appreciate any help you can give. I would call my dr but I don't think they are open today.

Thanks!

Usually, in most programs, the first week is Clear Liquids, broth, sugar free Jello, popsicles, tea, etc. Your surgery

needs time to heal and foods heavier than clear liquids make that more difficult. Everyone is different. Many people

have difficulty drinking anything for the first few days. You seem to be doing fine, just keep it light and take it easy.

I struggled to get enough fluids in that first week. Just had zero appetite. I was told to drink three Protein Shakes a day and there was no way I could. The nutritionist told me that as long as I had no nausea, was keeping fluids down, and was urinating regularly, then I was doing fine. After that, I stopped worrying and just sipped all day and did the best I could. Since you are not struggling with fluids, try to drink your Protein shakes, and use the other liquids in between . Hope this was helpful!

Welcome to band land!

My take on it is to add it in to the three broth meals. The broth is like Water, it just goes through the band. Are you limited on how much Water you can have?

When i was on clears, I could have as much as I wanted.

I was banded yesterday Dec 9. Im doing pretty good today. Some pain in the stomach area where the port is. I have been worried today too about getting in enough fluids. I have had for Breakfast 2 ouces of nectar Protein Shake and 2 ounces of gelatin.(over a 25 minute period) Ice chips between meals. lunch 2 ounces of broth and 2 ounces of propel zero again over 25 minutes or so. More ice chips and 1 ounce protien shake between too. And at supper I have plans for 2 ounces Protein shake and 2 ounces of broth. I worry about calories and dont know if I should be or not. I have been urinating so I guess Im doing okay. Any suggestions??

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
