Suddenly I Can Eat Anything? After 4 months with the Lap Band, weird!!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was banded 4 months ago. I've had 2 fills. After the first fill I couldn't eat soft bread, and after this second fill I found I had to be REALLY careful with how I ate everything else - my normal-size bites wouldn't go down anymore and I had to chew everything really well (like you're supposed to).

Suddenly the day before yesterday I swallowed a bite I hadn't chewed well enough and I knew right away it would get stuck.... but it didn't. weird..... but it started freaking me out so I decided to test it (probably a bad idea I know)... and nothing got stuck.... I don't know what's happening.

Does the band ever slip down instead of up? Or could the band have broken or something? I couldn't have somehow stretched the pocket in my stomach after only 4 months could I have? I don't feel like I've been eating large amounts or anything....

That happens to me after a while after every fill. From what I can gather, they say that it is because you have fat around your stomach and when you lose some of that the band gets less tight. Plus, with me I swell each time I get a fill and after it goes down it is less tight too. I am always afraid of a slip too but it sounds normal to me. I am on my second fill too, so I am by no means an expert!

Sounds like you need a fill! As you lose weight your band will loosen and you will be able to eat more. On average I got fills every other month, everyone is different and you will be able to judge when you need a fill with how often you get hungry and how much you can eat. If in doubt definitely call your doctor! Good luck!

This happened to me after my first couple of fills. One time I convinced myself that my band had slipped and I called the surgeon's office freaking out! Obviously they get a lot of calls like that because they reassured me that it was nothing to worry about and to get a fill at my next appointment. If you had a real slip you would be absolutely miserable!

I recently read through a thread where women noticed they are tighter during their period. So maybe irs the opposite?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
