Two Days Till Lap Band Surgery - To Final Supper Or Not??

Recommended Posts

OK, the purpose of getting banded is to change bad habits.....so, isnt it wrong to want to have a final supper?? One more cheesesteak? One last chinese buffet? Im so conflicted!

I had the same problem, and finally said " why not" with the understanding that this would be it until I was 6 months

out. So, every 6 months, I'll splurge and eat what I want, if I can.

My surgeon said NO ! But I was on this site back then, and everyone told me you might as well!!!!! It will be a while until you can eat all different kinds of stuff anyway.

Sure enough, they were rite. It's not going to hurt, and you get a chance to say good-bye to all the bad habits that you have learned threw-out time. You can have what you want, and have just enough to enjoy for your Last Supper.

That's what I did. I had Steak, Baked Potato, Desert, and something to Drink. I never came anywhere near to eating it all, but I sure enjoyed it, knowing I was saying So Long to my bad habits, and I would soon be Banded.

So you see,, it really can work out for you.

Good Luck ! Shirley.

I had a short list of foods that I wanted to have before I began my preop diet. I had them all, but none of them quite "right". The pizza was underbaked. The bagel was not prepared like I wanted it. The food at the buffet was overcooked.

Once I started the preop diet, I stuck to it.

My surgery us scheduled for the 6th. I have been debating tomorrow night. I spent the last three days saying goodbye to foods that won't be on my menu any time soon -if at all. I'm nervous.

Well nervous over what ? Everything ! That's Normal... As far as food, you will be back in touch with it before you know it.

Just not as much as you use to have. That's all.. Some foods you might find you will have a hard time getting down. Those you might choose to do without.

Now the Surgery Is down to a science. I have had Dental Surgery that was more painful. You will be in, then out before you know it.

Shirley.

This is not the end of life as you know it. Just a new chapter. You will be able to have a bit of cheesecake again if you choose to. I don't do buffets now, because it is a total waste of money, but I do have Chinese food. There are those who've gained a significant amount of weight due to "last supper syndrome."

There are no foods that I cannot have. I don't eat white meat chicken now, because it tends to get stuck. Doughy breads are pretty much off my menu for the same reason. But everything else? If I want it, I work it into my diet in smaller portions.

LOL...thank you one and all from absolving me of my guilt....I have lost 15-20 lbs in my pre-op diet so I doubt I will be able to eat much without getting sick anyhow....but I am sooo tired of cottage cheese, yougurt, fruit salad and shakes...

I too am nervous, but excited like many....my will and advanced directive are done, the counter is stacked high with Jello, anti-acid, gas-x and whey chocolate protien shakes....sooo...I guess I am ready...

It is strange...I feel like crying...like an addict who is giving something up...but I am determined to lose the weight for me, my children and my future...so head on in I go...looking forward to being a bandster by Wednesday afternoon....I will see you all on the other side....

Totally feel like crying too.

I am unique in that my surgeon doesn require a pre op diet. He has been doing these surgeries for many years and is cOnfident in knowing who he needs to do one and who doesn't. He doesn't make a blanket rule on it. So, when I say I've been saying goodbye I just mean that my meal choices have been my faves, not that I am going against doc advice.

I have been telling my husband that I feel like I'm saying goodbye to a best friend that I have outgrown. It makes me sad but I am ready and excited about the next ste P in my journey.

As for nerves - my post got cut off. I was saying that I am nervous about surgery itself since I have never had any surgeries or anesthesia in my life. I am more than ready for the lifestyle changes post op and have been preparing for more than a year.

This is such an exciting time!

Mellio - we will hold virtual hands and jump in together!

I am thinking not having participated in a pre-op diet is going to make your transition more of a shock....if you have time left, recommend doing it just to get your body used to no carbs...it is like a drug withdraw that lasts a week or two....and the weight loss that goes with it makes you feel stronger...and you feel more confident you can do without the junk.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
