12 lbs in a week- IS THIS HEALTHY?

Recommended Posts

I was banded a week ago, and since the surgery I have lost between 11-12 lbs.

While I'm obviously glad to see the numbers go down, I'm thinking that this can't be terribly healthy, and I don't want to do anything that's not healthy to lose weight.

For week 1, I've been on Clear liquids, and between a couple of Protein Shakes (with water) and broth, I feel like I'm getting about 50g of Protein and about 600-800 calories per day.

I'm assuming this will all come be gained back once I start solids, but should I force myself to eat more Protein shakes until I can have fuller Soups?

Just looking for input!

It's Water weight. Perfectly normal. (I lost 19 pounds my first two weeks after surgery.) It'll slow down, and eventually even stop. Hang in there. Your journey is just getting started.

I lost 22 lbs in 2 weeks. My doctor didn't seem concerned so I guess its okay.

I lost 16 in a one week pre-op diet. Consult your personal doc to see what his/her recommendations are for you. Without knowing age, pre-existing medical conditions, BMI, lifestyle, etc....we could only guess what you "should" lose. You'll lose the bulk in the first 2 months, after that, *most* people drop 1-2 pounds a week, but it totally varies. Especially for us females, there's usually 5-7 days before a period where we hold Water like crazy!

Enjoy the first big weight loss because it doesn't have after that! ;)

yeah as everyone has said, it is mainly Water loss and also the facts that you are on liquids. When you get back to solids expect to gain a little back, but don't worry about it....it is all part of the process.

Good luck!

I thought the same thing!! I was banded the 31st f August and I'm now at that phase where I'm not losing (in fact gained 2 lbs already!) should I worry/panic just yet? I'm exercising, watching my calorie intake and have a feeling this is gonna be a really long journey!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
