Thank you in advance for your slipped band stories! I am currently deflated with the hope my slipped band will go back in place.

How did your band slip? How did you know? A few days ago I got stuck really bad and threw up repeatedly. Ever since I've been in severe pain. Worried that I may have slipped. Went ER and they did nothing for me....

I have had many stuck/vomiting episodes. The slipped band was observed under fluoroscopy during a routine lap band appt.

When you were at the ER did they x-ray your band? When I have had a bad vomiting episode it has been advised and has helped to take prilosec daily for a week and to back down to liquids, mushies only.

The vomiting causes the stomach to swell and the band prevents it from swelling out so it can only swell in.

NO! I had some stupid resident that doesn't know what she is doing. She gave me Maalox and a protontic and told me to follow up with a GI specialist. I've had issues with being stuck before and having some pain and swelling after, but never pain like this or for this long! Since the episode, I've only been drinking Water and just a few hours ago, I started taking small spoons of runny pudding. I had my surgery in Mexico so I don't have my surgeon here. I have a Dr. that does my fills but she is not a bariatric Dr. She is 1hr and a half away. They told me to go to my family Dr. so I'm headed there by 2:30 today. I'm also experiencing pain in my shoulders like I did after surgery. The pain is very sharp at times and gets worse when I move around. I have to keep moving positions to get comfortable.

Yikes! I am glad you'll see your primary today. They should be able/willing to order a barium swallow x-ray.

Let me know what you find out.

I was banded in feb 2009 and my band just slipped. I went in hospital june 1 and had it removed and put back. Took all the Fluid out and in had a fill a few weeks ago. I did my fair share of throwing up and sliming. I've had heartburn and aid reflux several times when I was to tight. As soon as they took some out I was fine, didn't have it again. When my band slipped I couldn't eat or drink, keep nothing down. When i tried to drink a lot it caused so much pain around my rib cage. When they did the upper gi they found no food could go through the band, When i tried to drink it made it worse. I would suggest if you are in a alot of pain, have your DR order upper GI when you drink that white liquid they can see what is going on. I"m thankful I had that done. Good luck to you!

You may need to find a local surgeon who performs bariatric surgery, and see if they will take you on as a patient. I couldn't hurt to check around.

Hello,

I went in for a band check yesterday, my band is still slipped but doesn't need surgical repositioning at this time. I'll go in for a recheck in 3 more weeks. The doc took another 1cc out so my band is as empty as possible to help it slip back into place. I made an appt. to see an allergist and have allergy testing a week from Wednesday. I am convinced my band slipped due to my horrendous seasonal allergies, post nasal drip... My doc and NP believe so, too. The doc said that only 2% of bands slip, why me, lol! A fellow band friend went with me to the appt. to get a fill. She said I am so small I don't look like I belong there. ; ) I am taking the whole slipped band situation in stride, what else can I do?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
