Hello all,

I got my Lap Band on July 25th. I told a few people at work about getting the op. One person I did not tell I knew she knew would have neg things to say. Well I felt bad as she kept saying is your health ok? She would hear the people at work say how is it going. I felt bad and let her in on what I chose to do. WISH I NEVER TOLD HER.

This woman is say 120 pounds and thinks every one should diet and that people like myself are weak. Well let me tell you I told her a few things thanks to this group here (Lap Band Talk)

I stood up for myself said I did this to save my life to see my kids have kids.and so on in a nice way as it is hard for me to be mean to others. Think that is why I would over eat do to the stress.

I do have to say that when this person has lunch with me in the lunch room I find myself getting a stuck do to the stress to brings to the room. I have lost 21 pounds know how to eat but this gets me.

My kids at home tell me what I can and can not eat still. I think I know what I can and can not eat at this point. I do try new things and if it hurts or makes me ill I do not eat it. I am one of those lucky one's that gets the sharp pain in my left shoulder if I eat to fast or too much. LOL food Police Every Place I look. I know they mean well but come on.

Thank you for letting me vent.

Stay well stay happy.

Mary

hello, Mary and welcome to the Lapbandtalk. Congratulations on getting the lapband. I agree with you on knowing what to eat and not to eat. As far as that negative co-worker goes; first pray for her, for she knows not what she does, secondly she's jealous or she might even feel threatened by you, but you don't let that worry you, pray for her.

As for your kids, yes they mean well, however, if it were me, I would use that as another tool to help me remember what i can't have and what not to eat. for instance, before and since I've had my surgery, my family was eating all the good stuff. pizza, fried chicken, spaghetti, sandwiches and chips, u know all the good stuff tht we southern folk eat. anyways i was left to wallow in my own suffering but it helped me because it reminded me that those foods were the reason i was big in the first place. I am 6 weeks post opt, surgery was on the 12th of july. I am still on liquids and semi-solids. I am having trouble with the food stuck situation too. I am so ready to eat I don't know what to do. I found that meatloaf goes down easy, mashed green Beans, sometimes mashed potatoes, eggs, and all things broth. Warm stuff, some cold stuff like popsicles. So keep doing what u're doing and ignore the rest. In time hopefully they will understand.

Now as for eating lunch with this co-worker, surround yourself with positive. find your own place, tell her she is not invited, and enjoy your lunch, because you are right the stress makes swallowing worse.

Well I hope tht this helps and we will get through. Good Luck with your band journey.

God Bless,

success

I went though the same thing with my MOTHER of all people. She has never been overweight in her life and has no idea of the battle I have fought for the last 20 years.

She, like many people who have NEVER struggled with obesity, have no idea what it's like to have people say, "You'd be SO beautiful if you just lost weight" or have people cringe and pray out load that you don't sit by them on an airplane or be thought of as someone smelly, weak and lazy, etc. etc. etc......

She told me that all I had to do was cut calories and exercise more and my 100lbs. will be gone in no time. OH?!? is that it?! I had *NO* idea it was that easy. REALLY?!? Like I haven't spent the last 20 years in a gym, a dojo, on a trail, on a bike, in a wrap, with a trainer, in a dance class, kickboxing, grapefruits, low carb, low fat, low sugar, high *right* fat, and on and on..

Even after all that she says I am weak. Only weak people get bariatric surgery. Well....I guess I am a weak loser. But, I find myself in good company :P

I found that if I come back at them and say... you are right I am weak so weak that I want to see my kids grow up die old. I find that works very well, Let me say I am PROUD OF YOU for taking the step's to live longer and to be well.

I wish you all the best. Stay well BE HAPPY.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
