I am getting banded Sept 8, and my doctor told me that he plans on putting 'a little bit' (I'll find out specifics when I meet with him later this week) of Fluid in the band at the time of surgery.

I'm sure though that I could tell him not to if I wanted. I just wanted to get people's opinions and see if people who got a semi-fill during surgery were happy with that process or not... Any tips from the pros?

My surgeon put 2 cc's in my band at surgery. He told me 1 out of 100 people have post op swelling. I guess I was the lucky 1! Haha 2 days after surgery I had to have it removed because u got so swollen and couldn't swallow anything. When he took it out I told him thank you and he said "you won't be thanking me in a week because you'll probably be so hungry". But I haven't been at all. Ice been eating about 1 cup of coup 3x a day and I'm full. He said I just have a tight band.

I don't think my case is as common. I'm pretty sure most people probably do fine with the Fluid in their band. Consider it a free fill! Haha

i had 5cc put in at surgery

My clinic does not put anything in the band during surgery to allow the body to heal. They only use a 9cc and 14cc band depending on the size of your stomach once they get in there. Although the 14cc band they said does need more fills before the sweet spot is reached, just because it's bigger. She also said most people will end up with the 9cc band.

I had 4 cc's put it at surgery and so far have no even needed a fill. I am 9 weeks post-op and am doing great. Why would you be against fluid in at time of surgery?

My surgeon did not want me to have any fluid in my band because he wanted to be safe and not sorry. I am 2 weeks out (tomorrow). I do get hungry as I did preband but it doesn't take much to fill me up. I have gained some willpower so its not that bad. Bailey Rose is an example of what surgeons don't want patients to go through. Especially so early in this process, where we may be doubtful, regretful, or feeling less of ourselves. Good Luck.

Our surgeon puts only enough in to PRIME it to make sure there is no leaks etc. MIne went off fine no issues, my wife on the other hand had to have even the priming fluid removed because it was causing her to be too tight. I think it truely is each case is different. Good luck!

I had 3cc's put in at surgery and had very little issues with post-op swelling or with being in bandster hell. I think it really helped me get off to a good start. YMMV

My surgeon put 3.2cc in my 14cc band. I didn't even notice it. I've since had five fills (I think - maybe it's four) and I'm at my sweet spot, sitting at 9cc. I also had very little bandster hell to deal with. Not sure if they're related. I think if you start with some Fluid in your band, you'll be closer to the eventual sweet spot.

My surgeon said the reason he puts some fluid in the band during surgery is to firm up the band so the band doesn't move, and so the stitches heal in place better.

I am getting banded on Monday and my surgeon told me she will put enough in to "prime" the band that way when I do come in for my first fill it isn't all sitting in the tube, instead it will go right into the band.

M doctor added 4cc's to my band the time of surgery.

I can't remember for sure how much he put in mine but I think it was 3cc's. He did put some in during surgery.

My surgeon puts in whatever sits naturally in band at time of surgery so every patient is different. I got the 14cc band and had 3,2cc's added during surgery. A fellow surgery day bandster who I have since become friends with had same size band put in but under 3cc's of fluid during surgery. So basically it is what it is doctor to doctor & patient to patient lol!!

My surgeon added 4cc's at the time of surgery. But I didn't find that out until i went in for my fill and was told I was up to 5cc's. I'm sure they told me during all the office visits and I just don't remember (cuz I'm a little forgetful) but now I have had six fills and am at 7.2ccs and happy as a clam

nothing in my band until I was 2 months post op ... my Dr doesn't fill anyone anyone until after the stomach has healed.

I had a little restriction from the band itself.... But the first 2 months were a test of all my willpower ....LOL

My surgeon doesn't do any fills for 6 weeks
