    preggo question!

I had 4 cc's in a 14 cc band throughout my nature pregnancy. I didn't have to have any fill taken out. Just make sure you're getting plenty of calories in. You only need 300 extra. I had a very healthy 8lb 9 oz little girl. I stayed exactly the same weight my entire pregnancy and at my two week check up I had lost 30 lbs from delivery day. You can do it. It's completely up to you. Just be aware of how much you're taking in and if you feel like you need more calories don't be afraid to have some fill taken out. You'll drop the weight as soon as the baby gets here.

    Personal question!

Did anyone experience constipation once they cut out the carbs? I've been doing high protein/low carb for 1 week now.... I'm in my pre-op stage.... And I only go numero dos after some assistance from milk of magnesia. It's pretty annoying too because that stuff is disgusting. Anyway... Was this normal for anyone else?
  6. Trust me, you won't want to. At least I don't. I don't have a problem if it's watered down... But if it's fresh, it kills. I'm not a huge soda drinker anyway so it wasn't difficult for me to give up.
  7. I got 4 cc's. My doctor said the first one is big because not only is he filling the band but also all that tubing.

First 4 Months After Being Lap Banded

I'm 4 months pot op and including pre op diet I have lost 56 lbs! I'm down 4 pants sizes!
  9. For me it's because my insurance covers me here... And also I see my surgeon AT LEAST once a month and follow up care is most important to me- especially since I've really needed it. He's just a phone call away :-)
  10. Honk's right.... I would call and see of there's fluid in your band. I had so much post op swelling I couldn't even swallow my own spit. Called my doctor and he said "sounds like your fluid needs to come out." I didn't even know there was any in there. Once he took it out I could drink a glass of what're. But still... You should probably still be in full liquids right now. You need to rake it slow and give your stomach time to heal. Best of luck to you!
  11. I've had a port flip. You could have just popped a stitch or maybe just caused some pain from your abdominal muscles flexing and stuff from coughing and having something sewn in there. Make sense? I wouldn't worry to much about it... Just next time you see your surgeon, let him know what happened and he'll check if out. I'm sure you're fine :-)
  12. I was on liquids for two weeks. Maybe you have a lot of swelling from surgery and just née to try to stick with protein shakes and liquified soups with added protein powder in them. Also, you can call your doctor and ask for anti nausea medication. I didn't have a problem with nausea but lots of people do. Good luck!

    Heeeelp......

The heating pad is the only thing that helped me with my gas pains. And a hot shower. Soon you'll wake up one morning and feel much better. It was day 9 for me.
  14. That's awesome for both of you! I'm currently at a plateau and have been for almost two months now. And I've had three surgeries in three months because of port Infections and so on, but I still love my band! I've loaf allay 50 lbs since my my pre-op diet. I've gone from a size tiiiiight 24(probably should have been a 26) to an 18. I'm feeling better. I know I still have a ways to go, and would certainly like my port back because I definitely need a fill... But I'm happy with my success thus far. Sometimes I wish it would come off faster but I also know during this time... Especially without my port and needed a fill... I need to be putting in a lot more effort. But you two are inspiring! I can't wait to lose this extra 80 more lbs!!!!

    Papaya Enzyme???

I bought the papaya and pineapple enzymes and they've really helped when Ive been stuck a couple times. I bought them from traded joes. I found that after surgery I didn't have a BM for probably almost a week and then is was all liquid for a good few days. You might want to wait on the milk of magnesia and see what happens. liquids in, liquids out. But ya, since I eat way less now on occasion I'll take it.

    Minimum Calories Per Day?

In the beginning/healing stages it's really difficult to get in many calories... At least it was for me. My first few weeks I was lucky to get in 350. My doctor actually told me to start drink regular juice instead of sugar free because I have hypoglycemia(since being banded) just so I could get some more calories in. Obviously, I'm not recommending that unless you talk to your doctor first, just wanted to let ya know that I've been there... It's difficult in the beginning. But then before you hit restriction it will be difficult(at least is was for me) to stay between 1000-1200 some days :-)
  17. Dawn, I have 4 cc's in a 14 cc band too.. and I don't really have much restriction wither. I mean, I definitely eat less but sometimes I feel like I could way way more if I let myself. I had my port removed about a month ago because of infection and can't wait to get it put back in because I definitely need a fill. I'm careful about what I eat but I haven't lost any weight in at least a month. Oh well though. I tell myself it took 26 years to put it on, it's not going to fall off over night :-)
  18. Totally. I actually have my port removed currently because of an infection I had... And I still have that pain. I asked my surgeon about it hoping there was nothing wrong with my band and he said my tubing is moving around in there and causing the pain. I definitely feel it in the morning. I'm 4 months post op and feel it every morning. How long ago was your surgery?
  19. All the time. Sounds like your port to me. I really feel it in the morning.
  20. Sounds to me like you were mildly stuck but it passed through. That happens to me a lot. But when you're fully stuck, you'll know! I've learned I cannot eat any form of a hot dog. I've been stuck three times(lord knows why I tried three different times?!?!) each episode with intense pain and vomiting. But Ive also been stuck with steak a couple times... Won't be eating that again... Where I didn't throw up or even slime, but my cheat felt so tight for hours and hours. I recommend pineapple and Papaya enzymes. You can get them at any Vitamin store. When you feel stuck, chew a couple of those and it helps break up your food and allows it to pass.
  21. I had no co morbidities and was approved. What's your BMI?
  22. Aetna approved me in 3 days!
  23. I can eat pizza just fine. I just chew a lot. I would say I'm close to my "green zone", but maybe not quite there yet. I have 4 cc's in my 14 cc band. Things I can't eat: steak, sausage links, corn dogs(I should have never even tried that one but I was desperate one day for lunch), pop corn.... I think that's it :-)
  24. So I'll give you the quick back ground on my journey so far. I was banded on 8-2-11 and since two weeks after surgery I have been battling a port site infection. About 7 weeks after surgery my tubing actually popped through my infected incision and that had to be surgery put back in. It was simple and done in the ER under local anasthetics and lots of morphine :-) then a week ago, my incision still had not cleared up(after 5 rounds of different antibiotics). My dog jumped on me and accidentally scratched my incision and it opened up once again and that was quite an ugly site. So the next day I had port revision surgery where he actually removed my port, irrigated the wound and really cleaned up my nasty scar. All things look great and the infection seems to be finally gone. I'm confused about when my port will be placed back in. Prior to surgery he told me 6 weeks. Then after surgery he told me 3 months... But he also said it just depends on how well I heal. Before replacing the port I will need an upper GI to make sure there is no erosion... Which I guess is fairly common when you have a port infection, especially as long as I did. The infection can easily travel down to the band and begin to erode through your stomach wall. If there is no erosion I will have my port placed back. If there is erosion, they will remove my band, then 6 weeks(or so) later, I will have a new band placed as well as have gastric plication which is where they fold and reduce your stomach about 70%. It's a new procedure but everything I have read and found on it says the risks are very low and the weight loss is even more significant. All that to say, I think I just need some direction from others who have gone through lap band surgery and some of the same struggles as myself. Has anyone had the gastric plication with the band and how have your results been? I'm trying to just take everything day by day. And through all of this I still love my band, believe it or not. But my first recovery when the band was placed was horrific. Part of me is scared to go through that again, ya know? But I also know I can't lose the weight on my own... I've tried so many times. Anyway, thanks for listening to me. Any encouragement would be great!
