  1. I was on liquids for two weeks. Maybe you have a lot of swelling from surgery and just née to try to stick with protein shakes and liquified soups with added protein powder in them. Also, you can call your doctor and ask for anti nausea medication. I didn't have a problem with nausea but lots of people do. Good luck!

    In 5 words or less....

Haha just kidding. Here's a real answer. Infection. Plateaus. Post-op recovery.

    Please help!

Bread and starches for a diabetic and Lap band diet?? That seems nuts! I mean, I don't want to be rude but thats totally backwards. Go to a local bookstore or even look online for diabetic cookbooks/recipes. I don't have diabetes, but the lap band diet is very similar to a diabetic diet- High protein, lower carbs. Fruit is fine and healthy. Have you considered changing doctors? Hope you find what works best for you!
  4. Girl, we have the same exact story. I'm three months post op. I've lost 50 lbs but only 26 since surgery... And 15 of that was the first two months. You'll get there. I only have had one fill- 4 cc's in a 14 cc band. I have some restriction but I know I'm not where I need to be. I'm behind on my fills because of some complications, but I have to remember I'll get there. I always tell myself "it took 25 years to put this weight on, it's not going to come off overnight!". I just wish it would come off faster. But honestly, I'm not working out as much as I should. I am staying under 1200 cals a day and getting around 80 grams of protein... Wish is a lot less cals than I was eating before! You'd think the weight would be falling off! But oh well. I know with another fill or two I'll start losing more consistently. I can't wait to be a size 14! I bought size 18 pants a couple weeks ago and was thrilled my size now starts with a 1!! Havent seen that since highschool! I started out squeezing myself in a 24 and comfortably wearing a 26. So I'm pleased. But I would be more pleased in a 14! Haha

    Hungry at night

Me too! It's always been my weakness. It sucks for me because my husbda doesn't get home from work until 10:30 and I like to eat dinner with him, but I just keep my portions under a cup. But when I'm craving snacky type food I usually have a sugar free fudge bar or those 100 calorie popcorns or something like that. Before my surgery, 50 lbs ago, I would eat candy at night... Usually a bag of gummy bears haha... But now my band hates all things gummy. So if I still feel the need for candy I Have a jolly rancher or a couple sugar free lifesavers. That always does the trick. I stick to hard candy and don't let myself chew it because sucking on it takes so long that my hunger is usually satisfied with just one piece. Those are my tricks :-) lately I've also tried just drinking a glass of crystal light and cleaning for a bit just to get my mind off food. It works and it's a win-win!
  6. I'm 3 months post op and I still get that feeling sometimes when I lay on my left side... But just every now and then. I can feel it right now actually... But I also just had surgery again a week ago to remove my port so that's probably why. Haha... No worries though. It goes away. Also, you're probably more aware ofvyour body right now too since you just had surgery... So you're paying attention to every little sensation.
  7. Hey! The surgery was actually very easy. He did wind up actually removing my port because there was so much infection surrounding it that it wasn't going to clear up. I'll get a new port placed in about 5 weeks. With a port revision, they usually don't have to use the gas to blow up your abdomen so the recovery was actually pretty painless. The day of surgery and the day after I was sore and tired, but after that I was pretty much back to normal. Hope that helps calm any nerves you may have! You'll be glad to get it over with because then you'll be able to get fills and really get your weight loss going! Wish you the best!
  8. So in about 12 hours I'm having my third surgery in three months. since two weeks post op, I've been battling a port incision infection. 4 rounds of antibiotics later, I'm currently laying here with an open port incision with scar tissue and granulated fat tissue sticking out of it. About 6 weeks ago, my port tubing popped through and they had to go in there to fix it. My surgeon will be opening up my port incision tomorrow to irrigate the wound and possibly removing my port. I hope he doesn't have to because that means in about 6-8 weeks I'll have to have yet another surgery to place my new port. With all the little(to me at least) complications, I still love my band. I'm down 46 ish pounds.... 46 lbs I have never been able to lose on my own. Just remember, when things seem rough, think about all the good things that have come from your band. I know there are some people out there that would give their band back in a second, but I'm happy :-) 46 down, 80 to go! I'm a 1/3 of the way there! Wish me luck tomorrow!!

    eating soup

I eat soup all the time. It fills me up and keeps me full for at least 4-5 hours.
  10. I was maaaaybe getting 300-400 calories the first two weeks. I starting drink milk shakes and smoothies and cut out the sugar free stuff because I was so weak. My dr told me to do that. I started getting my energy back around week two but even then stuff would just wear me out. Take it easy... You'll fell better soon. Oh and I didn't have an appetite for at least three weeks.
  11. Haha no! The lap band gave me heartburn! It's not too bad though... Nothing a little tums can't fix :-) glad you're doing so well!

    belly pain

That happened to me... Still does an occasion. Then I found out yesterday my port flipped. It's not really that bug of an issue... Just eventually he wants to go in there and flip the port back over and suture it back down. I'm not saying that's what happened to you... That's just my experience. Port pain is very common.

    Feeling Sad...

I only lost 9 lbs my first couple of weeks and I was so disappointed because I read about people losing 30 lbs! Or something crazy like that. But I'm 9 weeks out now and its coming off. Your body is so concerned with healing right now that it's last priority is losing weight. You'll get there! Also, you don't have a ton of weight to lose so you'll be at goal before you know it!

    Strange Instructions...

I was on solids at 4 weeks... 7 seems extreme but I'm not shocked. Every doctor is so different. I couldn't do 7 weeks. It wasn't because I was hungry, I just wanted to she's something in my mouth! Haha I'm a texture eater so all the mushie stuff was starting to gross me out. I'm 9 weeks post op and I haven't had a fill. And won't for at least 3 more weeks. I'm losing consistently so I guess I don't need one yet. Sometimes I get hungry but I just try to drink a lot, find low calories Snacks if I need them and stay busy!

    Weight loss

I've been losing weight consistsntly since surgery. There have been a couple weeks where I haven't lost weight but then it will drop again. I've averaged 3 lbs a week. Don't get frustrated when/if your weight gets at a standstill for a while. It happens to pretty much everyone. :-) hope that helps... That's been my journey so far.

    Protion Problems

My dr said 1-1 1/2 cups of food... I couldn't get all that in though. Everyone is different. Find what works best for you, just dont go crazy :-) you'll figure it out soon.

    It's Going Down!

That's incredible! Good or you! I can't wait to be under 250. I, like you, have been in the 280-300(306 was my highest... Eek!!!) for a looong time. I'm at 263 now. 43 lbs lost since I started my pre-op diet.... 23.5 lbs lost since surgery- 2 months ago. Down from a size 26 in pants to a 20! I'm feeling great! Still have a ways to go, but I wouldn't be here on my own... Don't I know! I've tried diet after diet and could never stick to it. The band works! You just have to work with it. Good for you!
  18. Ya know, it changes for me. Sometimes I'm full like I was before... And sometimes I'm just really satisfied... As in not "full" but not hungry. And that feeling lasts about 4-5 hours for me. I usually know when I'm "full" because I get tired/bored with eating. I was afraid before surgery that I would be hungry all the time but I'm not at all. I get full on about 1-1/2 cups of food and I eat that about 3-4 times a day. It's awesome. I've lost 44 lbs since my highest weight before surgery. I'm down from a size 26 to a size 20. And I'm feeling better everyday. I wish you the best of luck! Please feel free to message me with an questions if you have any :-) I'm pretty new to this lifestyle- 2 months tomorrow...

    antibiotics question

I take capsules all the time. The day of my surgery in post op they had me take my pain meds in capsule form. I'm currently on levofloxacin (prescribed by my lapband surgeon) and they're huge! I just split them in two and I'm fine. I'm also allergic to pennicillin..
  20. I have that video and it kills me!!! I shally give up 12 minutes in haha... And I still get the waddles.

    What portions do you eat?

My doctor says 1-1 1/2 cups of food per meal. The first 1/2 cup should be protein, the second 1/2 cup veggies and if I'm still hungry I can have a 1/2 cup of carbs. He said the band measures volume and not weight so that's why he does cups.
  22. I burp constantly. I asked my doctor about it and he said "welcome to life with a band!". It's reaaaaally common. It feels good to burp... But sometimes I make myself burp so much that I get nauseated haha... Try not to do that :-) ps. This is a née "talent" of mine as well. Before banded I rarely burped... And I certainly couldn't make myself burp.
  23. So we shouldn't take ibuprofen or anything on occasion? I had never heard of that but once you mentioned it I found lots about it online. I'm really sorry you're going through all of this. Hopefully they get it taken care of and you feel much better very soon!
