Band removal question

Recommended Posts

I was wondering for those of you who had to have your band removed do to complications...after the removal was it as if you never had the band? or did you feel any of the things that you did with the band? For example phantom band symptoms. I know that may sound like a crazy question but, I wondered if it made a change in your actual esophogus/stomach.

I still occasionally get "stuck" - and my band was removed 7/04. Sometimes I still feel like I can "feel" it in there, but the restriction I have (which lets me get "stuck") doesn't seem to affect my appetite at all. Unfortunately the hunger level is the same as preband.

Nope difinately different for me..it is like i never had the band. I may have had phantom restriction twice in the very beginning when I ate bread but now it is like I never had the band , it has been 2 months

Still have discomfort from eating, but no more choking sensation unless I swallow something hard like a medication. Tried that ONCE, never again, back to chewing all pills and emptying all capsules. My digestion is definitely not back to normal though.

I'm same as LaMadam...had some phantom restriction at first and now it's like I never had it. It's been 7 months for me.

I had the phantom restriction for about two weeks postop, (I'm almost 4 mos. postop band removal) but now it's like I was never banded. I used to joke that they'd actually banded my brain, because I was rarely hungry in any sort of 'inappropriate way'..now..well I'm doing my best, but the weight is coming back pretty quickly.. I'm having DS-BPD surgery next week in Brazil.. Deb

Deb, You are certainly braver than I to be trying any WLS again. I was 235 at 5'8" before banding, now 215 and holding steady. I've discovered that for me there are worse things than being overweight, and constant pain and messed up digestion are two of them! I hope and pray these symptoms go away and I learn to accept this body I'm stuck with.

Amanda.. I'm sorry to hear you're still having a tough time.. I'm very lucky in that I have no after effects at all.. No pain, no problems eating. It's literally like none of it ever happened. I did have a breast lift/reduction and Tummy Tuck though, and have been very happy with this new body. I wanna keep it.. !! Best of luck to you girl.. Deb

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
