Super Protein, Gluten Free Grain!

Recommended Posts

This is for once your on full solids and dying for something that taste like white carbs...!

There is a super high Protein, super high nutrient, low carb, gluten free grain from Africa called Quinoa! It can cook like rice, but also be ground into a flour to use for any and all baking. It reminds me a lot of Cous-Cous. I love the Pasta the most!

In health food stores and online you can find it! My fave brand that I buy from Whole Foods Market is by Ancient Harvest -Quinoa Pasta, Flour & Flakes...(Just remember that the noodles need a much shorter cooking time because they cook faster and can get mushy.)

They taste the closest to white noodles as I could find and taste REALLY good. Most friends I serve it to actually prefer it to white pasta! I had forgotten to mention that. They mix the Quinoa with Corn flour to make the noodles, but I bet if you made the noodles yourself, you wouldn't even need the corn!

Here are a bunch of recipes that Whole Foods Market has on their website using Quinoa.

DW just brought some Quinoa (pronunced Ke' nwa, according to Google), and my reaction was "I'm not going to eat that, It looks like bird seed.",

But I just put a cup of it in the rice cooker with 2 cups of Water, a teaspoon of crushed garlic and a teaspoon of dried onion and it's good.

I haven't been banded yet (next week), and I'm trying to find stuff to eat. This forum is a wealth of ideas. I particularly like the meatball and

sauce blended with an immersion blender. If you are getting ready for th mushy stage, a good immersion blender is perfect, mixes Protein

powder into an ,almost, milkshake.

Quinoa has become my new best friend and I only wish I had discovered it earlier! I eat it every day and can no longer it rice (just to heavy and cakey for me now)

The great thing about Quinoa is that it is versatile, whether it as a side with spices or plain (it's tasty even with just butter!) or as a filler with salad. I've heard you

can also use it as a base for dessert, but I haven't tried that yet.

I love Quinoa!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
