HELP!!! My Doctor prescribed me an nsaid.

Not my lapband doctor...

I am having pain from endometriosis and scheduled for a hysterectomy next Thursday. But until then, I am in extreme pain.

My doctor prescribed me a pain killer that has NSAID.

Unfortunately, it is the only thing that kills the pain, but leaves me functional for my kids. I am a stay at home mom.

I have tried several different things that do not work.

I took two doses and then realized what it had in it.

I called my lapband doctor and the receptionist told me not to take it.

I put in a call to the actual doctor, no response yet, to see if I could crush it, desolve it, then shoot it and wash down with a drink.

I was wondering if it would be safe for my stomach if I did it that way.

What do you think? Should I risk it?

My lapband surgeon said that NSAIDs are okay occasionally--that they're more a risk for people with gastric bypass. If I were you, I'd go ahead and take it--at least until you can talk to your doctor.

My doc told me NSAIDs were fine to take anytime. The rule is for bypass patients.

I was complaining to my oncologist during my recent chemo about pain that was building in my knees, hips and shoulders, felt like I had aged 20 years overnight. he said it sometimes is a side effect and can take a year or two to clear up, but to take some Nuerofen (ibuprofen) for it every day. Not only is ibuprofen dangerous every day for ordinary folk but obviously its a NSAID and I shouldnt take it with a lapband. I said as much to him, so he presecribed me Nexium to take with it so that it wouldnt irritate the stomach.

For me personally, I'm medication phobic, I will not take anything I dont absolutely need and I wasnt about to take another medication to counter the effects of the first when I thought I would get by without the first anyway. So I ignored him, as he tends to just write a script for any possible complaint you could have! But if you really need something for strong pain, and endo is rather horrible, then perhaps you could ask about taking something like Nexium at the same time to protect your pouch?

OK, I am going to take a dose of mylanta and then take the disolved medicine. My stomach is empty so I am thinking it will just

go down and not sit in the upper part of my stomach.

I can not take the pain anymore, my babies do not understand why mommy can not do anything.

My doctor still has not called.

Thank you for your support.

Jachut is on the right track. My bariatric surgeon will allow Nsaids for special circumstance on short term basis.. but we are to take a PPI (proton pump Inhibitor) such as Prevacid while taking the NSAID. However, you don't take them at the exact same time. The timing I was told to use was Nsaid in am and afternoon, then the PPI at bedtime.

Check with your bariatric surgeon and explain your situation and see if something like that can't work for you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
