I have four medications that aren't related to the surgery that I take daily. Yes, I can take some of them. My birth control pill is small enough and another one I can snap in half and wait 30 minut

  • I'm one wek post op and I take several meds some of which are quite large. The only one I break in half is Metformin ( horse pill)! The others I just take one at a time with several drinks of water.

  • Hey everyone Just checking in.. tomorrow is one week since surgery, and I'm feeling pretty good. I'm still not having as much liquids as i'm supposed to (maybe half.. if that..) but things seem to be

I know, right? :) This morning I was thinking about mashed potatoes and i don't even really like them! LOL The longer you can let the tummy heal, the better...but dang. Applesauce only goes so far!! LOL

I'm on all clear liquids for 10 days..uugghhhhh......what I wouldn't do for a cup of oatmeal, lol I have verry little energy but the nurse told me that was normal. This is just like being in your first trimester of pregnancy, lol!!!

Glad you liked it. Nothing fancy, but I think it helps to see pictures from others. I'm 5 days postop and feeling good. I'm a total wuss, and I didn't shead a tear. Mostly it was discomfort, but little "pain." Best Wishes :)

I also feel like a bus (or train) hit me. I am worried because today is day 5 (was banded the 30th) and I definitely don't feel anywhere close to 100%. My port area is still really sore and I can't stomach the protein shakes. I am feeling really weak but I am pretty sure I haven't had enough fluids or protein. Any one else struggling?

I'm feeling tons better today. Still taking the gas x tablets but very minimal pain meds. I'm walking around more and feel like cleaning. But I'm going to lay off the cleaning part, lol and take advantage of the help I'm receiving right now. Oatmeal sounds wonderful Stan! Tomorrow is day 6 so I can start oatmeal..we'll see how that goes. I'm glad to see the July 1st bandsters posting again. Has anyone heard from Kevin? Wasn't he suppose to have his surgery on the 1st too?

My surgery was the 1st, and I still feel like I have a wet Nerf ball stuck up the back of my throat. But hey, we're only a few days post-op. I'm sure that the bloated, unsettled feelings will get better. I'm surviving on fruit juice, Water and applesauce. Close to zero Protein. Buuuuut - once I can start mushies, I will be fine. Right now I'm just happy that I'm peeing, pooping and burping less. I don't drink 64 of water, but I drink enough that I'm still alive. It can be kind of sad to read what others are eating/drinking, but really, you can only do what you own body can handle. For me, it is pretty limited right now.

I LOVE THIS GROUP!!!! I don't know where I'd be if I didn't have other experiences to read about. :Banane34:

Don't sweat it you're right where you need to be. Everyone's body is different and everyone has different nutrioniost/surgeons. We can only do what is right for OUR body. So with that being sad I'm so happy to have this group in my life too!!! Only you all know what it is like from eating whatever we want when we want to totally just surviving on water and jello! lol I love it!!!

I spent most of the day obsessing over food. Food I missed, food I wanted to sneak, but I didn't :) The closest I came was the teeniest drop of BBQ sauce on the tip of my finger....GOD THAT WAS GOOD. Just a change in taste lifted my spirits.

I looked at the nutrition area on this board and started picking out some recipes to try out. Pasta-less lasagna, how cool. I can make it through the liquids.....Friday comes mushies.....and now I'm not so scared anymore!! I'm going to have to try some stuff that I think sounds completely nasty, but having the ability to add a small amount of cheese makes me happy. If you're feeling down about this liquid stuff....try looking to the future and planning what to buy....it helped me!

Amy

i'm looking forward to the mushies stage too :) the weird stomach-y feeling is getting less and less...i guess it was just being gas-y because i do feel it even when i don't drink anything...incisions are soooooo much better today. anyone having issues with the incisions feeling itchy?

My incisions are alittle itchy but I think that means that they are healing. I woke up at 1:30 and had to heat up a cup of broth. I'm beginning to feel hungry......it worries me alittle since I have to wait until next Monday to have my mushies. I keep teeling myself that I can do this!!

Is gas pain getting to anyone else?

  • Author

Yep, my incisions are itchy (well, the steri-strips anyway. I don't think there's a thing in the world we can do about it though ( The gas is getting better each day...and yes, just like a broken record, walking and heat do help. I'm finding that Gas-X chewables don't really make a difference anymore. I'm wondering if it is more of the hernia repair issue than gas? Just don't know. All I know is that the more I sit, the more intense it gets.

OK Anyone else going crazy not eating? I can't wait to have something.....I feel fuzzy headed, I suppose since I haven't had anything to eat since last Thursday. I'm going to switch to more gatorade today than water. I need some calories I think.

REPOST FROM PRE-OP BOARD

Greetings from the other side of the banding journey!! I am home from the surgery which took place at 8:30 this mroning. All in all, REALLY not bad. I don't know if my pain is on a lower level because the surgeon used the same incision sites from my gall bladder removal, but I CAN say that I have only taken the liquid vicadin once since I have been home. I was not nauseous after I woke up but I tend to respond pretty well under general anesthesia. They had me up and walking within a few hours and sent me home with orders to come back in 7-10 days to meet with the nurse about my incisions and to have an esophogram before that appointment. I don't look forward to chugging more barium but apparently I will be having a lot of esophograms because that is part of the annual physical now to make sure that the band is doing well. I am able to drink my clear broth and juice and Water without any issues as well. Again, don't know if that is because I am taking sips or because I am just responding well to the band, but it is comforting!

As far as the gas issues I have seen others have after surgery, I have not had any pains at all. I find that weird so I expect that it will kick in tomorrow. I did bring a pillow with me to hold against my stomach in the car on the way home and that was a huge help, so I recommend it to everyone.

That's all for now! Have a good night :)

Glad you did so well. I am encouraged by what you had to say. My surgery is tomorrow and thanks to you - I won't forget to take a pillow...
