Eating slowly

Recommended Posts

I am 6 weeks out from my banding. The hardest thing for me is eating slowly. I chew slowly and at least 20 times. But I don't really know if it is slow enough. I have not had a fill yet.

How long does it take for you all to eat a meal? What method do you use to eat slowly? I most times read the paper while eating to slow myself down. Allot of times my wife will remind me to slow down.!!!!!!!

I'm really bad at this one. Since I've never been stuck or slimed or anything, I tend to eat fast. Especially since I'm eating such small portions! Sitting with someone else at a meal and talking (instead of reading, watching TV, playing on the internet) helps me slow down.

I've been cutting my food into small bites. I take a bite and put down my utensil and chew, chew, chew and swollow before I pick the utensil up again. Maybe this could help?

Set your fork down between bites. Sometimes I use a pickle fork so I take smaller bites.

Every fill for me was a new learning experience. I have finally discovered that I can eat ANYTHING, if I eat it slow enough and it is a small enough bite. It takes me a full 1/2 hr to eat but that just happened with my last fill 2 months ago. I have pretty much learned the right speed and size over time, I don't really have to think about it anymore, it's just normal for me now. I didn't think that day would ever come.

All great info, thanks. I have been using a little fork from Red Lobster. Minus the lobster of course :(

it has taken me a while to get used to eating slowly, used to scarfing my food down and feeling sick after. i don't want to vomit with this so i keep that in my mind the whole time i am eating. write a note and put it on the microwave if you have to.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
