How often do you slime?

Recommended Posts

OK...I HAVE TO ASK, WHAT I SLIMED? ONLY 3 DAYS POST-OP AND THIS DOES NOT SOUND FUN!:o

I had never heard of sliming before my surgery in February. If it happens to you, you will definitely understand why it is so named. Sliming happens when something gets stuck or if you have eaten too much. It is your body's way of trying to lubricate the food, so that it will slide down. For me, sliming is an extreme amount of saliva produced in my mouth. If I swallow it, It makes the pain in my chest worse. (The pain comes from something being stuck or filling the pouch much too full). So, when many people slime, they spit it out. It sounds gross and it is gross, but it's part of our reality now. One of my biggest challenges is to take small bites and chew. (You'll see that in a recent post of mine.) I think that many heavy people never paid attention to their food and never learned to take small bites and chew.

When I saw my doctor last week on Friday (he had to "unfill" a little bit), he told me that "newbies" almost always have some problems within their first few months. It's a whole new body you have inside, and you have to get used to what sensation means what.

If you're three days post-op, you have some really great things to look forward to. Don't get overly concerned about sliming and PBing (productive burping). Concentrate on taking things slowly, following your directions, getting plenty of sleep, and taking care of your pain, if you have any. (I had pain for one week.) Anything else that comes up, the nice people on this forum will help you.

All my best,

Jennifer

For me when sliming, it is impossible to swallow it, there is just no way that it is going to go down. My favorite position is to hang over the kitchen sink and let it run. Cloth towels get too wet too quickly to keep absorbing it, paper towels are very rough on the lips. Some people put paper towels in a cup and spit. I've never tried that method myself.

I'm starting my second week tomorrow; I have never slimed, PB'd or stuck. I started out with 2ccs in my band. I can eat eggs just fine. I love having one egg scrambled for Breakfast with my smoothie. Gives me fuel until late afternoon. What kinds of mushies are you eating that you are sliming? I am somewhat paranoid, so I eat really really slowly; I guess it's kept me from having problems though! I can drink Water really fast, however.

Mushies don't usually cause sliming. Try not to be paranoid (that's no way to live), but continue to eat really slowly with tiny bites. When you get to the point where you're eating real food (solids), cut your food into tiny bites, eat very slowly, and if you feel any pain in your chest, stop eating right away. Wait a few minutes. If the pain stops, then take another bite. With the band you have to pay close attention to what you're doing. I really need to take my own advice! Proceed with caution...

Sliming and PBing are no fun. They can ruin your day. But if you do what you should, you'll be great, and it won't happen. Congrats on your success so far.

Thank you Jennifer! I will certainly take your advice to heart. I appreciate it. It's true, I've always had some amount of fear about vomiting since childhood. Thankfully, I've only vomited maybe four or five times in my entire lifetime, so I feel quite lucky. It's gone from being terrified of it, to just some small amount of paranoia.

What I definitely need to do is shift my thinking from being scared of sliming or puking to preventing sliming or puking because I care about myself and my new anatomy.

Thanks again :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
