Husband hurt my feelings....

Recommended Posts

For those who have followed my posts you will know that I was banded in Aug '10 and have lost 50lbs to date!!!

You would figure that is a wonderful thing, until your husband comments:

"are your gaining weight again? you look flabby"

WTH!!!! what a way to really hurt someones feelings! :(

I just hate men sometimes

We think long and hard before we open our mouths. We know that anything we say can get us in trouble, even if we didn't mean anything by it. Is your husband overweight too? If so he doesn't sound too happy about you losing weight.

The big stinker! Makes you wonder why people say stuff sometimes......

You should just totally forget father's day this weekend (I'm hoping you guys have kids) and then when he asks why you didn't get him a card/gift just say "I was too flabby to go out and get one!"

Hopefully he realizes what he said and give you a genuine apology. Keep your chin up!

TOTAL agreement with men do not think before they speak.

Tell him your admirer at the "book store" thought you lost weight ! :D HAHA

Sometimes a little reminder of what they have is all they need to realize how stupid the things they say are! SMILE!

Shelley's post just made me laugh so loud!! Lol

I agree with Allie, by saying someone else noticed will really ruffle his feathers! My husband HATES when I say someone compliments me, he's always like "No one should be looking at my chocolate drop!!" lol...men! #RollsEyes

That was a crappy thing for him to say, but as I always say "men are VARMINTS'. lol! Sorry, all you great guys out there. lol!

Just keep doing what you are doing. I have not had Lap Band, yet, but plan to in a few months if all goes well. HOWEVER, I have dealt with those kind of comments from my dad over the years. I lose weight all the time, just to gain most of it back so he feels he has to comment on it. It's very frustrating because unless someone has been in our shoes to know what it's like, they Just DO NOT know. I always feel like this is a type of addiction just like an alcoholic in an ABC store. That's the only way I can describe it best. That's why I don't do well at buffets, no matter how good my intentions are. Something in my brain just goes haywire with all of that good food around.

Many blessings to you as you continue your journey. Don't allow his comment to bring you down.

I'm not going to generalize men, since I know a lot of men who think about what they say, my partner included; but I am sorry to hear that he said this to you. My guess is he feels insecure about his own weight or appearence, and is jealous of your weightloss.

Don't let it get to you unless he does it on a regular basis. Just try to look at the accomplishments that you have made. I think you're doing awesome, 50 pounds! You ROCK!

My husband said to me one time "Geez, your really getting fat!" He said it 2 weeks after I had given birth to our daughter. Let me rephrase that....my EX husband said it!! Men can be such asses!!

Gag! I am so sorry your husband said that to you! Men...what can ya do...

Just a few days ago, after losing 30+ lbs, I was able to fit into a summer dress that I had

previously bought two years ago. I was getting ready to go to my brother's graduation and my husband

takes one look at me and goes, "UGH! Don't wear that to a graduation! All the high school boys are

going to look at you. Can't you just put something more casual on...like old jeans and a t-shirt?"

I gave him the evil eye. I think now that I am losing weight, he's insecure that I might get big headed and

not want him anymore. It's cute in a way, but more so frustrating.

Keep your head up girl!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
