ALL my fluid was drained due to a possible "slippage"!

Recommended Posts

I was banded july 08 by Dr. Sadek in Freehold NJ. From what I understand, over the last year or longer, he had left the practice but I know he is still pretty local. I did however start to see the new doc that too over the practice. My first appointment I waited over 1 hour and left., I rescheduled and that time I waited 2 hours! The third time was another hour and that was it. I had an upper GI done and it was decided that noting was going into my band and it may have slipped! So, out came the saline as well as my security blanket for 4 more weeks to see if this helps fix itself, '

Has anyone heard of this "self fixing technique", I an scheduled for GI in June and I hope and back to see mr "Personalty Doc" the end of June, Depending on what he says, I have another doc lined up for an appt in July.

Has anyone heard of this? DId the band end up fixing itself? PS...since the removal of the fill, I am SOOOOO bloated,,,anywone, anywome????? THanks, d

Back in September that is what my Dr did. Just be careful what you eat because it is so easy to gain the weight back. Remember to take it easy. I ended up having my band slip again recetly-my fault, not the Dr's or the band. I kept it too tight. I had to have surgery yesterday and my band is now unhooked so I'll be living band free for awhile. Just take it easy and rememebr to eat by the same rules, and you should be good. And yes, if the slip is small nough, it can fix itself.

yes, I, also, had a slippage. I am ok, now. The surgeon removed everything for a month. I did gain a little bit, but once the liquid was, gradually, put back in, I was able to loose it all and then some. You should be ok, too! But, have patience with your doctor's office and get a fill and visit when needed. Karen

Yes, unfilling is the first, most conservative treatment for a slipped band. it is somewhat a misnomer. Actually your stomach has come up through the band. So they remove the Fluid to allow the stomach to return to its previous proper position and rest a bit.

Hope all goes well for you!!!

How do you know that you have a slippage? what makes you think that you have one?

I also had the saline removed because the doctor wasn't sure if mine had slipped.(we treated it as such because I didn't have time nor desire to go have tests done) ..he indicated that many times the slippage corrects itself. I had been keeping my band too tight also, so I was spitting up almost everything that I tried to eat. My symptoms were: reflux, especially at night and severe pain in the area of the band (I thought I was having a heart attack, but it would go away finally after walking and burping alot) Along with removing the saline, I am on a daily dose of prevacid. (for any ulcer or erosion that may have occurred)

I stayed unfilled for a month, and have had a fill now for over two weeks with no problems!

Oh, and while unfilled, I was a bottomless pit! I had NO restriction at all and did gain weight!!!

I had been throwing up my food for several months. It was almost 3 years since my surgery and everything was going great! ( I wish I could figure out how to adjust my weight loss ticker but I can't so I will tell you all that since my surgery I have lost 90 pounds)! My last fill was in August of 2010 and it started about December. My initial Doctor had left unexpectedly and it wasn't until recent that I found out he had moved about 45 minutes north of me. Anyway, my first visit with the new Doctor was the first week of January. I told him that I can only eat a little or else I throw it back up. He said I was not making wise decisions and sent me to a nutritionist! He was a little dismissive and it annoyed me. Anyway, I went back too him about a month ago, told him AGAIN and he suggested a upper GI series. I went and clearly on the screen, you could see that nothing was getting through to my stomach and the doc there was really cool and showed me the screen and pointed everything out too me. After 10 minutes he said it was "very slowly just trickling into my stomach" and that the band was clearly too tight. A few days later I was back at my doctors office where he drained all of my saline out. The freedom of eating is truly scaring me and I hope to God that the band corrects itself and I can continue on my journey with the band. I have been very happy with my results and it honestly has been a wonderful aid in helping me loose weight. I do lay awake at night wondering what is going to happen (I have to go for a repeat upper GI the 3rd week of June). I weighed myself today and I have almost gained 20 pounds since the saline was removed and it has only been 2 weeks!!!!

The sad thing is that I did go to my Doctor months ago and told him what was happening and I truly felt that since I was not his initial patient, he dismissed me and my concerns. I am normally a pretty easy going person and I believe that was my downfall with this. I am going to switch Doctors once the second upper GI is repeated. I will keep you all posted and thanks so much for the words of encouragement. I pray that the band will slip back into its proper position and I can continue on this great journey. Trust me, if anyone reads this and it bringing up food....the band is most likely too tight! Don't let the loss of weight keep you from saying something because it will end up biting you in the ass....trust me!

Thanks for the info....interesting how these things are so persnickety, and that you def DO have to be your own advocate with the medical folks many times!

On my weight ticker, I just click on it (the weight ticker in my signature) and it takes me back to the website it was from, and I enter my new weight, and click next I believe.

Keep us posted, and I will too...as I am trying to drop the 30 I gained from my unfill period!!!!

Spent all day at the ER,they had me drink some stuff and then did a cat scan and said all was moving fine even through the lap band. He said I did have a hiatial hernia and called my gastroenterologist. The gastro dr. said a lot of times a slippage of the lapband mimics a hernia. Have an appt. with him in the morning and he wants to scope me. I am also going to see about getting all my saline drained just to be safe. Wow what a trip this has been. I am at my goal weight and do not want to gain any weight back.

Don't know which would be worse... a hernia or a slipped lap band!!!

I think I may have a slippage to my band Oh' God I have to say I am so fed up can anyone advise!

I cant eat anything I have heart burn and when I do I have a funny gurgling noise and a horrible sensation as a stuck feeling afterwards and salivate +++++.. I had a medium sized Meal yesterday and may have been too much post this was being continually sick.. my poor gutz feels battered..Can a band move from heaving too much..?

Can someone tell me what is happenening with the band?.. I have not had any fills since surgery and this happens now!

I have been exercising on a Vibration Plate and wonder if this may have moved the Band out of position.

I feel so uncomfortable and am considering getting it removed with my track record... have not lost much weight and feel this was a huge mistake..as it was self funded..

Can anyone advise me please on this..I am on just sips of Water now!

HELP HELP HELP!:o

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
