Hi everyone,

My surgery date is a mere 2 weeks away! I'm starting to think about the little things to make sure I'm prepared. I'm wondering what people wore/plan to wear for their surgery date. My doctor said just "comfy clothing" and to bring a housecoat, slippers and extra socks... I figure I'll wear some yoga pants, t-shirt, sports bra, sandals. Also I'll bring a zip up hoodie for if it's cold. When I'm actually in surgery I understand that I'll be wearing a gown but will I keep my bra and underwear on?

i wore some very lose elastic band pants so nothing would be tight against my stomach. I wore a loose, flowing gauzy top and brought a hoodie with me. the hospital provided daily sock with traction on the bottoms. You don't wear anything under the gown when you go into the OR. I didn't wear my bra home after surgery because I had a hiatal hernia repair and the bra was too close to that wound for my liking. So I just zipped up the hoodie over my blouse and nobody knew the difference.

comfort is key. I was very cold when i came out of the OR but the nurses put blankets on me. Unexpectedly I wound up staying over night and I just kept the gown on and wore my same clothes home the next day. I was too tired to take a shower till the next day at home so it didn't matter.

Everyone is in the same boat in the hospital--wearing those ghastly gowns..but you don't care when you're there.

Good luck and don't worry--it will be over quickly and you'll be on the other side!

comfy shorts with elastic and a t-shirt.... and sandals.... easy to get off and get on...... no big deal..

oh and take your liscense, insurance card and list of meds you take.

I think the outfit you're planning on taking is perfect. I stayed overnight so I also brought PJ pants to wear under my johnny. I had to be completely naked for my surgery except for the socks the hospital gave me. My port is kinda high up on my chest, like under my rib cage, so it's best I didn't have a bra on, but I put it on once I was settled in my room post surgery.

I'm planning on wearing a casual sundress over a tank top that has a built in bra. I'll wear a strapless bra with it, but I thought the built-in-bra of the tank might be more comfortable than the strapless bra afterwards. With the dress I won't have to worry about waistbands rubbing incisions. I will also probably bring a zip up hoodie just in case.

Sounds perfect-- in fact, I wore yoga pants and a long-sleeved t-shirt (I knew I'd be cold in the hospital). They gave me traction socks (we are apparently a "fall risk" and I had a wrist band that said it in bright orange- haha). But, I took my crocs so it was easy slip on and off, yet supportive for my required laps around the unit.

Hey First, congrats! And second, I just wore normal clothes. I wore jeans and my favorite shirt. When I got to the hospital, they brought me into the "waiting" room and made me change into a gown, cloth panties, and no-slip socks. I couldn't wear my jewerly (bye-bye Industrial piercing) and my bra. I ended up wearing that all day because I wasn't allowed to change and I was so drowsy that I just didn't care. Before leaving the hospital the next day though I changed into a baggy pair of pj pants and t-shirt. I dont recommend anything tight because it'll hurt your stomach. Just something light and comfy. Good luck with everything!

**I live in Florida so I didn't need a coat, but I recommend something easy to put on. Also, I had brought my makeup and hair supplies, but I was just so tired and in pain from the gas that I just didn't even care what I looked like.

I hear some people saying to take a pillow to hold against your tummy for the drive home. I didn't need it but you might want to think about having one handy

You are going to be so drousy after surgery, you are not going to car about a bra! Just leave it at home. You will only have socks on with your gown going to surgery. I took a pj set. I made sure the top was a button up one and then the matching pants with slip on shoes! The stretchy, loose button up top will come in handy! Sometimes they may let you go ahead and get dressed, but you will still have an Iv so it's easier with a button up top. They had me to get dressed then took me to radiology for a quick swallow study b4 I left the hospital. Not every doctor does this, but you may want to be prepared in case! Good luck. By the way I just had my lapband done today! I feel great other than the gas they blow you up with so they can see better! I'm sore, but not any real pain.

My SIL just had back surgery and so I took my choice from her pre-op instructions.I had surgery yesterday and I wore a loose fitting dress that we called a moo-moo in the sixties. I didn't think I would feel like bending to put on pants and I was right about that. This worked for me. The nurses were impressed with how easy it was to get me dressed.

I think you got the idea by niw what to wear, but I wanted to comment on the pillow thing. I did take a pillow and carried it with me fire my walks a few days post op. I lived about 1 1/2 hrs away from where I was banded and they sent me home the same day. The pillow helped with the ride home and when walking I was able to gently push on my tummy to help " move" the gas. :0) More things to prepare you... I wasnt prepared for the gas pains. I had a gas bubble in my left shoulder for days. Nothing really helps the pain, just walk walk walk! Get extra pillows for bed. Laying on you side is tough for a few days. Some people still can't, i for one was on my stomach the night of my surgery! I just used a million pillows. Good luck!
