Infection a month after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I had the normal 4 tiny incisions and 1 "large" incision when my band was placed a month ago. The incisions have all healed nicely, but over the past few days I have noticed that there is a red area around my large incision. It's a bit puffy, and a bit sore, and warm when I touch it. I called my surgeon's office today and they want me to come in tomorrow to have it checked out.

I'm just a little confused because the actual incision was all healed up nicely, so it's not like I have an open wound. I'm confused as to how I could have an infection that shows up AFTER the wound is closed.

Anyone have any thoughts, or did anyone else deal with this? I'm a little worried because my first fill is scheduled in a week. I'm hoping that won't have to get delayed if there really is an infection.

I had that happen about 2 weeks after surgery. I thought it was infected. There was a big red puffy circle around my port incision and it was warm to touch.

When they saw me, they said that it wasn't infected. That in some people that's just what happens as the port settles into the abdominal wall. My doctor didn't treat it and it went away completely in a couple of days. You may be just fine. I've never had a problem with my port.

Let us know how it turns out.

Huh... interesting. Mine keeps changing from bright pink-y red and puffy to looking less puffy and sort of yellowy bruise-like... but then the red comes back late in the day or the next morning. I'm all sorts of confused wink.gif

Well, the PA said she doesn't know if it's an infection or just some liquid that hadn't been absorbed yet. She gave me antibiotics just in case and I'm keeping my fill appointment for next week. Unfortunately if it it's not cleared up by then, they won't give me a fill :(

It happend to me. I had to take antibiotics and postpone my first fill. I dont think it was an infection but my Dr. said lets not take any chances. Love him so much. Any way it healed wonderfuly and the fill came the next month. Good luck I hope it workes out for you like it did for me.

I have red, warm to the touch circles around each incision that itch horribly. I was told that it was an allergic reaction to the skin adhesive they used.

I had something similar a couple weeks post surgery. My incision actually opened a tiny bit when I leaned forward one day and a bunch of liquid came out. Freaked me out to say the least. I was seen at my doctors office and it was not infected it was just a pocket of fluids and is not all that rare. They simply cleaned it up and checked everything over and when that area healed over on the surface all has been fine since. I needed no meds or anything. I will hope the same for you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
