My hubs and I are have been thinking about the Adjustable Gastric Banding for a while. I have been thinking about it a lot longer than him. We finally made the decision to do it together. We both have a date of June 1st. We are self pays so our surgeon was quick to get us on the schedule. I am looking forward to having some control over what we eat and working together to be a healthier couple. We both have quite a bit to lose, but hubs is in better shape than me. I can't wait to be able to walk faster to keep up with him. I have read a bit of negative blogs, but I am focused on the good. The band is only a tool and it can only work as well as I make it work. I am open to any advice and words of encouragement. I love reading all the success stories. I am very lucky that my hubs is doing this with me. I have read some not so supportive stories. Thanks for listening and I am hoping to have some success stories of my own. But first, there are quite a few steps before the big date. Hope to get to know a lot of you and thanks for listening!

Hi There! I saw you live in Florida too. I'm up in Hernando though. Which surgeon did you go with? I went to Palms of Pasadena and watched 2 different seminars but I ended up going with Florida Obesity Surgical in Zephyrhills as it was much closer and more cost efficient for me. I was also a self pay. It is so great you and your hubby are doing this together!! I really wish mine would have too but he is a bit tentative when it comes to everything doctor related. He is however going through 6 months now of dieting so we can try to use our insurance for him.

It will be really nice for you both to have a buddy to share this experience with. I was just thinking today, it would be so great knowing someone that I could call up and be like "okay what's up with this?" SO i called my nurse at the surgeons office. Their office is so great though. I don't know if your surgeon requires it, but I went to a support group prior to surgery and since as well. I've only been to 2 now since I'm only 5 weeks post op but I really enjoyed going to the group. Everyone was so happy for me with getting the surgery. Plus I think it really helped my hubby to feel more confident with getting his journey started also.

Anyways, I wish you both the best of luck!! The pre op diet really is the worst part. If you can survive it, the surgery is a cinch!

My husband and I are both banded but 3 years apart. Its good living with somoene with the same attitude to huge meals and junk food but other than that we're on our own journeys. Our attitude to exercise is poles apart - he will only walk, i'm a fitness freak so we do that separately most of the time and he's happy to be "not obese" anymore, whereas for me, this was always going to be a way to get right down to a low BMI. For DH, the band has worked the way it does for the average person, he lost that 60% of excess weight. So to other people it still looks liek I'm someone who takes care of myself and that my DH is a couch potato, which is pretty much true. He hasnt used his band in any way like the way I've approached mine. That's OK, we're happy enough to be supportive of one another but people are different and be prepared that it might not be some idyllic together journey where you gently complete with each other to lose pounds and excercise together every day. One of you might be wildly more successful than the other!

Congrats on your decision! I was banded last June and my husband will be banded in August. I pray that he has successful results with it as I have so far. I think things will be a bit easier for us since both of us will be eating the same way.

The only thing I worry about is that he is a "foodie" type of person - loves to try different things, loves to cook just loves to eat. I have tried to prepare him that he is just not going to be able to eat like he does now & may have trouble with certain foods. I just hope he doesn't regret the surgery after it is done.

Both of us were banded December 2008. Its been a wonderful experience to share. Please make sure that you have someone to take care of both of you for the first week.

Actually, you CAN be like that after banding and be successful too. I love cooking and I am a bit of a foodie, but I always tempered my interest because I would eat it all. With a band, I really enjoy my food MORE than I did when I could stuff my face - its really nice to ahve one of those gourmet morsels on a huge white plate kind of affairs and be satisfied with it! Getting banded doesnnt mean you cant enjoy your food and really good food is often healthy - its the cheap junk that does the damage - the McDonalds, Subway, KFC, white bread, boxed cereals etc.

Congratulations I wish I could get my Hubby to do it with me. He is such a scaredy cat. Maybe when he sees my progress he will be more intrested.

I, also, go to Florida Obesity Surgical Associates in Zephyrhills.Love the office, a lot of the staff, including Dr Grossbard, have had the surgery. Hope that you enjoy your journey as much as I have.

My husband is a scaredy cat too! However, scared as he is, he is supportive of me. I just wish that I could get him to do it. HIsd famliy have had some problems being put on full life support, so he has his reasons! Good luck to you all. Karen
