How did your relationship change?

Recommended Posts

I was seperated from my husband when I had surgery.. But we remain friendly... after I started losing weight he wanted to come back.... So I asked him if it was because he liked me better this way in my thinner body.. and to my surprise he said yes... I didnt take him back and filed for divorce instead... I obviously wanted someone who would love me at any size.... But on the positive side.. I am dating a wonderful man who has been with me since one month before my surgery and is very supportive... So I am taking it one day at a time with him.

Now friends and coworkers.. I am blessed with great friends who have been very supportive.. but my coworkers have been down right mean... I am shocked how my weight loss has become a topic of discussion in the office.. and rarely are they supportive.... it is so bad i am ready to quit my job.

So my surgery date is April 15th and my husband is not as supportive as I would have expected him to be. Our marriage has been on the rocks for years now and came pretty close to an end back in January. I was just wondering how your relationships have changed with your significant others after the surgery. I'm not ultimately looking for just positive stories, just honest ones if possible. I'm all about being upbeat and positive but I just really want raw honesty positive and negative alike. Thanks for your time :)

~Pam

Hi Pam, I have planned to do some type of gastric surgery for the last couple years. And my boyfriend of 15 yrs didnt want me to have this done. So i put it off. Then just one day out of the blue I decided this was something i really wanted to do regardless of his support or not. I just felt like Im cheating myself out of something that is going to make "ME" feel better about myself. So i just came out and told him I was doing this no matter what anyone thinks. This was about me and no body else. So as of April 12th I am officially Banded. And he has been right there by my side. And yes our relationship has been some what rocky also but we're trying to work things out. I have just got to the point that I have taken care of some one all my life and now its time to take care of ME.. I think he feel that if i loose this weight I will leave him, lol. But I dont worry bout that stuff. Im not saying to leave your relationship if you dont want to, Im just say stand your ground. If you want to make this change then go for it!! Good Luck.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
