Has anyone else gotten banded and it was enough to help them loose weight. I don't know why I am feeling this way. Talk to me guys. Yes, I do have fears of vomiting maybe that's why I am convincing myself of this. I just feel having the band in place will be enough. If this does work is this ok? Thanks

You only vomit if your band is too tight. (well that should be the case). I haven't ever been sick, or stuck.

It depends how dedicated you are.. but the fills help get your band to a place where the hunger hormone isn't produced (it presses down on a nerve or something like that), so you don't think about food as much because you aren't hungry. It's a useless piece of plastic if you aren't getting hunger control from it. There is no way to know if just having the band will do that... most people get a fill.

But I will say not everyone gets sick all the time with the band. Some people it's only certain food... some people insist on having their band super tight. But most people with normal fills, who take their time to eat shouldn't get sick.

I haven't had a fill yet but I didn't plan in that way. I just don't need one yet. I don't see the point in getting the band knowing you will not ever get a fill. It is most likely by enough to do the trick long term but it could be. Reverie is close to goal with no fill. Im down 58 pounds in four month with no fill. There are several others in the same spot but it doesn't appear to be anything but a small minority.

Im also afraid of a fill and am so glad I don't feel like I need one because it would be a dilemma for me.

Seems like the fills are ok unless you become too tight. The great thing is that it is adjustable and if you have too much fill it can be easily removed.

I love my fills... every time I get one my weight loss gets kick started again. My third fill was kind of tight, but just to the point where I can't eat certain things anymore... when I ate bread or scrambled eggs I threw them up...but its not the same kind of throwing up that your used too; its not pleasant and doesnt feel great, but its no the acidy nauseating type like you get with the stomach flu. You will love your fills when you get them, because it makes the whole process so much easier when you are not hungry or you get full quickly. It's worth it; the band was the best decision i have ever made. Good Luck!!

I wouldn't be afraid to get a fill but you can lose weight without one; I've lost 114lbs with an empty band. I'm not afraid of a fill but I am not a fan of having certain foods completely gone from my diet; that's just silly and unnatural in my opinion. Some people do well with it; I do not. I eat all sorts of foods and I will say I have gotten stuck due to lack of chewing/taking my time. Without the fill I usually eat a cup - cup and a half of food and I stay full for 3-4 hours.

Good luck!

You just can't anticipate this question at the stage you are in :) When I first started the process, I was hoping I would be one of the lucky ones and not need a fill. I soon learned that we are ALL the lucky ones because we have the band! Don't be afraid of a fill...it's a super easy, painless process that takes about 5 seconds. If you need them - GET THEM...it's critical to acheiving weight loss with the band in most cases. Good luck this week! Stay POSITIVE and you will do great!

I went into this journey not looking forward to the fills (I hate needles :P ) but understanding that in order to get the most out of this band that I might need them. As it turned out, I did feel restriction just from placement of the band and have only had one fill in 4 months (which I didn't get until last month). I have no intention to keep my band so tight that I throw up all of the time or can't eat certain foods...just my preference. I have only thrown up once since being banded and that was before my fill and completely my own fault for eating too fast and not chewing my food properly. There are some lucky people who can lose it without fills (and maybe you will be one of them) but I wouldn't go through the surgery if you aren't willing to get a fill if you need one...

4 months out and no fill yet. Like checkyes I did not plan it that way. I just feel like I have restriction with just the band and I'm doing ok without a fill ( I do thunk I have some fill from surgery though, I want to ask when I go on Wednesday) I do hope I can keep going without one. But I'm not afraid to get one, if I do I will make sure I never get to tight though

Fills are not scary, I promise!!!!

They're just a part of the band - and part of the progressing stage. There are many stages in this process and one of those involves "losing" your old self too.

MOST people (the majority of people) need fills - I really believe that those without fills are just really good at tricking themselves mentally.

I am officially 13 days post op! I too am afraid to vomit... But I have accepted that this is something that is going to happen one day. My first fill will not be until May 6 which is 5 weeks after being banded. The way I'm feeling right now is I need to get a fill so that I don't gain the weight back that I have already lost. When I feel hungry I'm quick to drive through a drive thru and make some really bad choices... So I can't wait to get that first fill so that I can eat to live instead of constantly thinking about what I'm going to eat!

Great advice going on here, but if you are UNWILLING to get a fill, do NOT get banded. Without proper fill levels, you just have an expensive piece of hardware inside you..doing nothing.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
