I am banded!

Recommended Posts

Got my band in on Monday and have really gone through a lot of pain. I also had a hernia repaired so Im guessing that's what's caused all of the additional pain.

How odd it is to finally have my band, after all this time of waiting and trying to psych myself up for the huge change in eating, and here I am not even wanting to think about food. Ive started on whey protien shakes, slim fast, some chicken broth, and still only reaching about 370 calories but getting in the minimum protien so I guess that's not too bad for the first day or two. No food between Sunday night and Wednesday morning (surgery was on Monday afternoon, came home Tuesday evening) and yet Ive gained several pounds. That band must weigh 4 pounds! LOL

Anyway, Im slowly recovering and happy to be part of the gang now. :)

This site has been a great help to me so far. Thanks to all who contribute even in the smallest ways. Every post has been an inspiration!

Congrads, Susan! I also had a hernia repaired when I was banded, but I didn't suffer from any pain. It was pretty uncomfortable as far as bloating, and I was sore, but pain was never an issue. We're all different. I was up and walking 1/2 hour out of surgery while others couldn't get up for 24 hours. The next day some were sick while I was fine, but then everyone was back to normal while I was still miserable from bloating and what felt like Montezuma's Revenge in my belly for 2 whole weeks. Good luck to you... since you're the photo nut, you gotta put an avatar pic up now!

Congratulations!!!! I also had lots of pain post surgery, but it did fade withing 2 days. Don't worry about the 4 pound weight gain, it could be from the IV fluids they infused during surgery.... Good luck to you!!

Welcome and Congrats! I took the pain meds till they were gone (at leat a week) then finished off a couple of bottles of liquid tylenol too befor I felt better. Just concentrate on healing now and not weight loss. You'll probably be tired for a while too. Remember, your body is getting used to way fewer calories too. Take it easy and heal. Welcome to this side of it!

Thanks everyone! I am indeed tired, sleeping a lot but doing better each day. I actually stood up without even thinking about it a few minutes ago.. Yay! My husband has been so sweet. Making sure I'm doing everything I should be doing, encouraging me to get up and walk, fixing my shakes. I am so blessed to have a guy like him.

Anyway, I plan to take everyone's advice and take it easy. I guess I heard it a lot but hadn't let it sink in enough.. "everyone's different"

I will get the avatar pic up as soon as I dont look like death warmed over. :) *laughs* (ow)

:clap2: Hey, I'm glad to hear your doing ok as well

I was also banded on Monday and had my tubes tied and a cyst removed. Today I actually threw up and thought I was going to die:omg: But I'm actually feeling pretty good tonight. I've been sleeping in a chair the last few nights and most of my pain is where my port is. I have a huge bruise around the area....

Maybe we can keep in touch. Do you have alot of pain where your port is also? anyway. Glad to hear your doing well also. Keep me up on your progress?

Kim

Congratulations to you both! The memory of the pain will become indistinct, and the fun of getting your life back will continue on and on!

The port pain is the worst, and it gets less every few days. Eventually, you won't even know its there. (But sometimes I rub mine like its the remnant of a buddah belly good-luck charm)!

:)

Congrats Photo! I had more pain that I had with my gall bladder surgery and was pretty miserable. I know my surgery also lasted over 3 hours, but there weren't any complications-I guess. I was also pretty sick from the anesthesia and it took the nurse a long time and a lot of trial and error with the anti-nausea drugs before they found one that worked.

The first 3-4 days were pretty bad but after those 3-4 days I felt better and better each day. About a week or so ago, I was having some pretty bad pain in my stomach area, but that has settled down. Since then, I have been pain free.

I go back for my one week post op on the 24th, and get my first fill. Don't really feel any restriction, so I am anxious to get the fill.

To Kennedy: First of all, grats on your band! Yay :)

Yuppers, my band area has been the sore spot for sure. I even called my surgeon and asked if I'd done something to dislodge it because it felt like it was sticking out all weird. He assured me that there was nothing I could do to harm the port or dislodge it, and that there would be some expected swelling and Fluid build up under the port. And, just as he said it would, it has gone down in just two days and I'm able to bend over more now. Haven't had any nausea, they put Pepsin in my IV prior to surgery and then again that evening. They said they have had more success preventing anesthesia sickness if they administer the Pepsin prior to surgery. And yes, let's do keep in touch with our progress, and let's include Kim who just got hers too by the looks of it.

Kim: Did you go home the same day?? Wow, they couldnt have paid me to leave the same day.

Brad: Rubbing your buddah belly good luck charm! Im still chuckling over that. Is this your form of initiation? Making newly banded people laugh?

Jessicazi: Three weeks down already, I bet it went by quickly. So you are on to mushy foods then? Were you afraid to swallow that first bite of "semi-real" food again?

Dolphin: Thanks :) I do have a wonderful man. We met in 1998 in a chat room. He lived in England and I in Idaho. He flew over to meet me and my then teenaged kids, stayed with us about three weeks, returned home, sold everything he had and came back to the states in Sept of 1999. We were married just 21 days later and have lived happily ever after. We still marvel at our story. I'll be sure to pass on the kisses and compliments. It will make him all embarrassed and stuff. *grins*

:clap2: Congratulations on your surgery. It is great to see somebody else from Idaho. Good luck on your weightloss journey. I go to Boise quite often. Which part of Boise do you live?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
