Discomfort - Air bubble in chest

Recommended Posts

My husband was banded on Monday (today is Wednesday). He has had very little pain at the site of incisions, but has been experiencing pain in his chest that he describes as 'a shooting pain that comes from an air bubble that is stuck in his chest.' He says the pain gives him the urge to straighten out his back to try to help release the pain - and after a few seconds the pain eases out. I've seen other posts that refer to not being able to burp and he says it is kind of borderline with that feeling, but he doesn't always have the sensation to burp when this happens. It seems worse when he first lays down, stands up, sits down, etc.; although it doesn't happen everytime he does one of those things. Another major trigger is that he feels it pretty much everytime he swallows.

Has anyone else had this? How long did it take you to improve? Please help!

Thanks!

Many people get very bad gas pains froms surgery. This is from them blowing gas into the body to help move the organs. Some people say to take GasEx but my doctors office said that would'nt do anythign. The other thing I've heard is to do a lot of walking and moving around as it disperses the gas.

walk walk walk will make these pains go away! I had them too and would call the office asking if I was ok. She would tell me if you were okay you wouldnt' be able to talk to me right now. So tell him to walk walk walk please! Even around the house and go up and down stairs if he can.

I was banded 2 days ago and have the same thing. When I swallow anything or take a deep breath I have a sharp air bubble like pain in the middle of my chest.

I was banded one week ago today. Yes it's normal. I had it too. It made me think at first it doesn't feel right but then again my whole body didn't feel right due to the anesthetic. I wasn't sure. But I read and read and read about gas pain and walking so that's what I did. I've been walking a mile every day to feel better. By day 4 & 5 I began to feel more like me. It does get better and better. Today I feel good, I'm even going back to work tomorrow instead of next Wed, my original plan. You guys will see it through! Walk walk walk :-)

I was banded last Thursday the 25th and I'm feeling the same thing. The pressure in my chest is an aweful feeling. I took the advice and walked and I actually feel a bunch better. Going to get up every hour and do a couple laps around the house. Thanks for the help!!

Thank you to everyone in this thread!! I think you just saved my life! I was banded 8/24 and started having this awful pain about 2.5 days ago in my chest... excrutiating at times! I saw the doc today who did say the band was too tight and he fixed that, but the pain came back within a cpl hrs... I know it's AIR. Thank you for confirming I am not actually crazy and that it will get better!!! Even sips of Water are hurting badly... patience!! Thank you all and good luck! We can do this!

My success with getting rid of the awful gas pain was to walk A LOT!! I would walk the driveway back and forth and every five or so minutes, I would stop and bend forward as far as comfort allowed. Some how, adding that bending motion moved things around and I was eventually passing the gas when I bended (classy, right?). Hope it helps.

It is gas pain. Walk, walk, walk! Lift your arms up and down, just move. It will pass. After 4 days I was much better!

I had this at first as well, but walking walking and more walking made it feel better! Thankfully, after a couple of weeks all gas pains had completely vanished! I do, at four -ish months post op still burp more than I used to, but I never have gas pains anymore. Your hubby should be just fine!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
