I had my banding done in august. i lost about 30 lbs but thats counting the weight i lost before the surgery on the preop diet. i am getting so frustrated with how slowly the weight is coming off. i know it isn't supposed to come off as quickly as with a bypass but its maddening to not see significant changes. anyone else have this kind of frustration? how do you deal with it?

Maybe reevaluate what you are eating? Count calories for a while to see if you are indeed under 1200 everyday. It can be deceiving sometimes! Also exercise.. 5 days a week. I know it's easy to get off track.

i had a lower BMI before my surgery so i knew my weight loss was going to be slow. i had 68 pounds to lose to be "normal" on the BMI chart and i just hit my goal this week... almost 3 years after my surgery.

it was frustrating in the beginning and i've had to work for every pound that i've lost but it's been worth it!

Here's what I tell myself, "Self, as long as you are going in the right direction it doesn't matter how long it takes!" I know it can be frustrating but I often wonder how much heavier would I have been if I never had the surgery... Just keeping plugging away and enjoying life and you're shrinking self as it occurs. You'll get there! Just think, 5 months from now in July, how much further you will be down; then it won't seem quite so slow when you can look back.

Kalipso2, I think you are very inspirational! Great job on achieving your goal!!! :P

Stick with it. Overall, I've done really well, but because of my thyroid issues (my thyroid was removed a few years ago and I'm on total thyroid replacement meds for the rest of my life), my weight loss stalled and is actually pretty slow again. I had lost so much weight, my medicine wasn't working and I had to get the dosage changed. I am almost 1/2 way to my goal.

I'm lucky to lose a 1lb a week. I've been flip-flopping up and down the last few pounds.

Even though it is a little frustrating, I remind myself why I got the band and that I haven't put myself through all this for nothing. I am not going to sabotage myself. It is so exciting to have people tell my that I am "wasting away", that I'm looking "skinny" (what me?) or that I'm just looking good. One of the guys I work with even said something to me the other day. Brave guy. He was the first one of them to say anything. Yay!!!

Lemon chick,

I also have a severe thyroid problem. I am due to be banded 3/28, but am very nervous because I really eat well and don't over eat know. When I talked to the doc. He said I would be a great candidate because It would really help to limit me. For example we do go out to eat (I don't get dessert) , but I would get small amounts. I am just really nervous about the weight loss, I'm also going to go to the gym more regularly then I do. I currently weight 232lbs. I usually weight around 237. I got up to240 at Christmas I think the stress of the band freak me out a little.

Good luck to everyone with slow weight loss

Joleen

I also lose at a slow rate - maybe a pound a week. But, the scale is moving in the right direction. Hang in there and don't obsess over the number on the scale. Be happy with the NSV's!

Chavawava,

Do you think that you may need another fill which can give you more restraint on the amount of food you are eating? Or have you been following through with an diet and exercise regimen. Maybe you should make another appointment with your nutritionist in order to re evaluate your progress.

Hope this helps.

I am a so called slow loser as well.....I am losing a pound a week on average but I try to stay positive and just believe that one day it will all be gone even if it takes 2 years or more. I am down 80 something pounds but only 57 of those are since being banded a year ago. But, if you think about it 50 more this year will put me at a weight that I haven't been since junior high school and I am very excited about that!

30 pounds in 6 months is 1.25 pounds per week. Bandsters can expect 1-2 pounds per week. You are right on track!

Keep up with what you are doing and the rest will come off as well. My loss rate was an average of 0.75 per week. Yep 3/4 of a pound. But you know what? Over the weeks and months it became 70 pounds. Time goes by, the pounds add up. 30 pounds is 3 bags of potatoes! That is no small feat.

You are doing well. Keep it up!

Edited because it was 6 months, not 60! Yikes!

I was also banded mid August. I am averaging 1 lb per week. However it has taken me a loonnnngggg time to hit restriction. Which I think I am at now. So perhaps this will speed me up. I also have been frustrated reading this board where people say they got restriction at their 2nd fill when it has taken me like 10! Yes, I have been very conservative in my food choices, measure my portions and exercise daily.

I only lose 1 lb per week and that's only when I follow a 1200 calorie, 30gm carb diet. Yes it's slow...but it's progress.

Over the course of a year, 1 lb per week is 52 pounds gone. That's nothing to sneeze at. If I'd gained 52 pounds in a year, I'd have been in tears like nobody's business.

Being banded is about the long haul. Sometimes in the heat of the battle it's easy to forget that. Yes, we gain faster than we lose, but it is much easier to eat an extra 3500 calories than to create a deficit of 3500 calories.

Believe me, I wanted the weight gone yesterday as well. But now, it IS gone. And so far, it is staying gone, with ease.

I feel like my weight loss has slowed way down, but when I look at the big picture - I am averaging 1-2lbs a week since being banded. Just hang in there - follow the plan and it will come off.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
