Starving!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I was banded a week ago and I just began the 2nd phase (creamy liquids.) I understood that I would be hungry my first week since I was on a clear liquid diet. But today I have been drinking muscle milk with lots of Protein and I thought it would be better once I started these "shakes." My stomach has not stopped growling since the day after my surgery. And my lack of food is leading to hunger headaches. I know we have to be strict about what we eat because we are healing. But is there anything that you guys know about that I can "eat" on my second week that might actually stop my stomach from growling???

I'm not expecting to feel full or satisfied. I just don't want to feel like I'm starving. :(

I've been drinking a LOT of Water, but that's not helping. Any suggestions would be wonderful.

Thanks!

Are you getting 60-90 grams of Protein a day? and are you sure it's not gas? My stomach just felt wonky for a while..it wasn't necessarily hunger

Are you having Soup? Can you have pureed bean Soup, it be comes totally liquid when you puree it, that has a lot of Protein? For that week I generally had 3-4 Protein Shakes a day, and maybe a cup of soup.

Did you give up caffeine that might be giving you a headache?

I'm getting at least 60 grams of protein, but I guess I need more. And I don't think this is gas. I'm definitely hungry!

I agree you should try for more than 60 g of Protein. Are you doing RTD or using Protein Powder? Premier brand Read to Drink is pretty good and has 30 g protein for 160 calories (Costco). As mentioned by a previous poster low fat/cal creamy Soups (tomato, low fat squash, etc) are good at this stage. I really like Progresso Tomato and basil and Pacific brand Tomato and Sweet Red Pepper (sometimes found in the Organic section). I would recommend drinking 8 oz of Soup (use a coffee cup vs mug because mugs hold a lot more than 8 oz); and then an hour or do later have the Protein Shake. I was allowed Jello at this stage but not pudding. Spreading out your calories may help with you headache. Hold the rotted tomatos but you could also try a cup of broth between "meals" as it only has like 15 calories.

My surgeon has me on full liquids from day3 to day 14, which includes Protein Shakes, cream Soups, cream of wheat , and pudding.

so is it okay to have the Protein shakes in the 1st week? my dr said clear liquids the 1st week.

I was allowed to eat creamy Soups, I got some of the Soup at hands, good quick snack. I also found a recipe for buffalo chicken soup, very satisfying. I use Pure Protein powder and mix it with skim milk, fruit and ice, makes it more hardy. I also put in plain low fat yogurt , makes it thick and creamy. Invest in a good blender. I am on the downward slope to the mushies, can't wait for the mashed potatoes, and cottage cheese. Good luck and mmm....mmm...good!!:P

Your headaches may be due to a drastic reduction of fat in your diet.

While it's not a popular view with many doctors because they're so anti-fat, something to keep in mind is that *fat* is better at controlling hunger than Protein. So during this time, maybe increasing your fat by using higher fat yogurts, puddings and milk in your Protein Drinks might solve the hunger and headache problem. I ate the sugar free (but not fat free) puddings and I'd put sugar-free whipped cream on my little cup of Jello. When I progressed to where I could have thicker things like oatmeal, I'd use half and half instead of milk, put half and half in my coffee, etc. I never seemed to have the hunger issues during this time. Then again I was fortunate enough to have a doctor who took me through the stages and back on to solid food by the end of 2 weeks so I didn't have to test this theory for an entire month.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
