Still hungry

I've never been online like this, but here goes. I was banded 1/7/11. Ending week 2 now, but sometimes I feel like I could eat a horse!!! Is it because I'm still in such a pureed state with food. I think I'll never eat Soup again! Maybe I could be having trouble finding the difference in being comfortable and being full. I don't feel like I've had enough to eat unless I feel full... Is there suppose to be a feeling when you eat too much. I haven't felt it yet!

A lot of people go through this after being on liquids and mushies for so long. I didn't have this problem because I drunk Protein Shakes in between meals and my mushies mostly consisted of refried Beans and oatmeal which both of those will keep you full longer and the beans kept me bloated! So, I rarely was hungry.

Oh, I ate the Beans as a meal by itself. I would get refried beans and put sour cream and cheese on them. I use the Jillian Michaels whey vanilla Protein and add 1tb Peanut Butter, milk, and a little frozen yogurt in it. It's really good! You should be able to eat cream of wheat and oatmeal now. If you add a scoop of Protein Powder to your oatmeal it will help with the fullness too.

OH, I see... Duh.... I didn't know you could have anything like Peanut Butter or sour cream. I've just been eating the stuff on the list of week 2 foods. I ordered the Bariatric Advantage Whey Protein. Hopefully I can add some tuna and chicken starting tomorrow. The shakes sound pretty good. So it's ok to add little tidbits of soft stuff, huh?

I wouldnt be so quick to use oatmeal or Beans this soon in the game to much carbs. I would stick to whatever Protein you can and leave the carbs alone for now until you adjust to the eating meat. Just my opinion.

I think Beans are a good source of Protein and carbs. I believe oatmeal is a complex carb as well and full of Fiber which will help you stay full longer and not over eat later. Well, follow your Dr. recommendations...LOL! I just love me some beans and oatmeal and they were both on my list of mushies. Everybody has a different list though. Like Fluffytofab said I would be careful though because everybody is different and process carbs differently. Since I workout 5 days a week I need some good carbs in my life for energy.

It's hard to get that true "full" feeling that you're used to with liquids and some mushies because they aren't actually sitting in your pouch for the most part. So you're getting the Protein and you should be full, but you're not going to feel it as much as real food because it's not sitting. Make any sense?

Once you're on some different foods, you'll start to feel a little differently. Also, if you eat a portion of food (say chili or a soft fish Protein or something), remember to eat slowly to give your brain time to process the fact that you're satisfied with what you've had to eat.

Helps to drink Water, oddly enough. Between meals or when your brain is saying you're hungry, even though you just ate.

When you're overweight, your brain thinks full is a little different than most people. Your full is really "way too freaking much food" - you should simply be satisfied after you eat. Not stuffed. That's been the hardest thing for me to understand. It'll take time. Just stick with it!

The statement above is correct. Oatmeal and beans are a much better choice than Protein shakes and meat Proteins. The carbs are complex and the Protein is complete, whereas meat protein is incomplete.

Also - the mushy phase is still a healing phase. Complex carbs are okay and are necessary.

If you want the numbers:

There are 11 grams of protein in an 81 gram serving of oatmeal (0.13 g of protein per 1 g weight) - and it's a complete protein with all the amino acids you need.

In an egg there are 6 grams of protein for an average 55 grams of weight (0.10 g of protein per 1 g weight) and it's an incomplete protein.

Beans also have a complete protein but there are fewer grams of protein per serving, 13 grams for a 238 gram serving (0.05 g per 1 g of weight) but with some cheese and ideally greek yogurt (very high in protein) you could have a very nutritious meal with a lot of protein, a good amount of complex carbs, and some necessary fat.

Summary:

Oatmeal and beans trump other Proteins. Eat them and enjoy!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
