You need to talk to your surgeon's team, and sort out what's going on. Gagging and vomiting is not a sign of the band working correctly. (I've lost almost 80 pounds and I have never gagged or vomited.) The band won't prevent you from eating, it only reduces your hunger. You can eat a minimal diet, but if you eat the wrong things, you may not lose weight. If your exercise only balances out the calories gained by your eating habits, then you also may not lose weight. There are a lot of reasons why your loss may be stalled, and you owe it to yourself to figure out what's going on.

Good luck!

Dave

I really hope I'm not losing my restriction. I've been hungry this week shortly after eating. I'm getting TOM very soon and I hope it is just that. I only have whatever fill was put in during surgery (still haven't asked what that is). I just started birth control today actually because I've been getting really sick on my first day. Does anyone know if that helps with getting hungry the week before?

Sorry guys if thats to much for you...lol

I. too, get hungrier before and the first few days at TOM. When is your next lap band follow up?

I didn't have hardly any restriction until my 3rd fill. When is your next follow up appt? Are you drinking any calories like alcohol, smoothies, juices, shakes...? Follow up care is crucial to success. Hang in there!

Before I reached the correct restriction I wasn't losing much at all. Now I am losing 2-3 pounds per week.

I have "BIG" news! I have reached ONEDERLAND! I weighed in at 198.2 this AM! :D

Congratulations Joan! How exciting!

I'm nearly at my goal of no longer being obese and only overweight laugh.gif

which will then bring me under 100 (kilos that is).

I've taken the day off work today to get an unfill. I can't stand it anymore. The lump I'm feeling in my chest constantly and tiny amount of food that I can actually keep down is driving me crazy and the scale didn't move this week! angry.gif

I found a Dr nearby yesterday but he refused to help me out and told me I need to go back to my Dr which is a 1 1/2 hours drive away. So I spent another unpleasant night with my stomach gurgling and slight reflux. I can't wait to see the Dr. this afternoon. I still can't work out why my band is getting tighter. Its been over 2 weeks now and each day is getting worse. The only thing I've been doing differently is lots of exercise and ab workouts! Who knows it doesn't make sense to me.

Congrats on onederland! Can't wait til I'm there, still have 12 lb to go

Yeah I had my un-fill and I feel fantastic...... but very hungry! rolleyes.gif

I can drink Water again without it hurting and enjoyed 1/2 cup of coffee!

The Dr. took 1 cc out which surprised me. I was hoping he would only take out 0.5 cc, so I'm only 0.5 cc more than my last fill. Most of my restriction has gone.

He said I needed to give my stomach/pouch a rest for a few weeks and then go back for a refill. He also mentioned that I could have aggravated the band by eating spicy food or by drinking something really hot. He explained that spicy food often sits longer in the pouch / band area and can irritate the stomach lining near the band. Anyone else heard of this?

The effect was immediate so now I have to make sure I only eat small meals and continue my exercise regime and maybe put up with my hunger pangs. Better than a lump in the chest and water hurting going down though, not to mention the vomiting and sliming and weight loss slowing down!

Dr. was very pleased with my weight loss and only wants me to lose 15 more kilos (33lb). I want to lose more, but he said I might be disappointed and never get there if I set the goal to high as the people with the lap band don't always lose 100 % of their excess weight. Well I didn't tell him that this board proves that theory wrong and there are heaps of people reaching their goal and plenty going under their goal. I'm aiming to be one of those people! However, 15 kilos seems so much closer than 20. Maybe I'll make this my mini goal rolleyes.gif

Glad to hear you got the relief you were after. That must have been awful to go through.

I can't imagine how the band would know if you were eating spicy or non-spicy food. (Picturing a guard with a turnstile like at the airport.) "Ok, you're Not Spicy. You can go through." <pause> "Hold it! You're Spicy! You stay over there till I say you can go through..." :) Sorry, but I don't think that's how it works. I eat spicy food all the time, and I don't even feel it. I don't even get heartburn anymore - not since they repaired my hiatal hernia.

I set my goals at five and ten pounds at a time. That way I get mini-goals I can feel good about, all the while keeping a long eye on the long term goal, which is probably just out of reach. if I get within 20 pounds of my ultimate goal, i'll be happy. but I'm sure as heck gonna try and get there! :)

Good luck with things!

Dave

I just hate my jeans. They are fine when they come out of the dryer, but wear them for a few hours and they feel like they are falling down. They are size 20, but I have one pair of 18's that I can put on and button but they are uncomfortable

it's a pain! I skipped right over 18 apparently.. I bought some 16's yesterday blink.gif I wish I could wear dresses all the time instead haha, but my legs are ugly.

Then it should be time for a fill if you can't go 4-5 hours without being hungry.. maybe give it sometime and see.. if you said it just started. Also are you eating enough to keep you full?

I'm eating the same as I was before. I'm not going to jump into a fill. I'm going to give it at least a couple of weeks. I have a feeling it is just tom.

Anybody getting any weird soreness ? I've got this soreness, it's like 2-3 inches to the right of my port. It feels like it's under my last rib on my right side. I can't figure out what the F it is and it's really bugging me.... I've kind of slowed down my weight loss so I think it might be time for a half CC fill. I guess I'll have to ask the surgeon.

Hi all my fellow December Bandsters! Question time:

How many fills have you all had?

How many cc's are in your band?

What kind of band & what size is it?

Do you feel like you are at your sweet spot?

I have had 4 fills

I am at 5.75cc

I have an Allergan Standard AP 10cc band

I do feel like I have good restriction since last weeks fill :)

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
