My insurance would have paid some, but I wasn't in the mood to jump through their required hoops, so I took my little cashier's check and went to Mexico. In retrospect, I would have paid twice as much to have my surgery there. The hospital and staff were stellar. My surgeon and his team have done >3,000 lap band procedures. That was the kind of expertise I was after.

From my first pre op visit with my GP, to the MRI I had to have due to a spot on my CXR, lab, etc,,I paid about $18,600 out of my pocket, as at the time, I had no insurance.

This was in Mexico Dr. Kuri $8,700 for my daughter and I. Needless to say I will be paying on this $17,400 loan for the next four years. We are both at a slow loss (Feb 23rd 07 surgery date) but I'm sure at the right fill level we will start seeing better results.

My total out of pocket expenses were $1600 - my health insurance covered the majority, and medicare gave good rebates. (I know things are different here down under)

My fills and consult work out to be $45.00 per pop.

I paid $13,500 out of pocket - my insurance refused to cover due to written exclusion with my employer. I chose not to get a loan or charge any of it - scheduled the surgery when I had worked to save the total amount.

I paid $175.00 for the psych evaluation, and $500.00 co-pay at the hospital which covers everything.

$12,900 cash in Houston, Texas with (the wonderful) Dr. Hadir Spivak.

Our insurance (really employer!) had a WLS exclusion in our policy and there was no way around it. I finally decided that the band is an investment in me and my future with my family. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it! :) That is also what I chant in my head when I start stressing out over having spent that money! ha . . .:omg:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
