Help! Getting Banded on Monday and still haven't chosen a protein shake!

I am getting on this coming Monday the 25th and have yet to purchase a protein shake (I know I have waited entirely too long). I have researched and cannot make up mind. I have heard of Unjury, Syntha 6, 100% Optimum Whey protein and have also read about people that add protein to Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast. Advice and opinions are appreciated.

The problem with adding unflavored to warm soup is if the soup is over 130 degrees it makes the Protein clump (I read this on unjurys webcite) they have a chicken soup flavor that you just add to warm Water but under 130 degrees.

I am going to order the starter kit from unjury for 17.95 plus 6 for shipping and try all the flavors out.

Yeah, I read here on the forum there is a way to warm up Protein powder slowly for adding to soup. After that horrid experience I had, I never wanted to try it again! Blech! :)

Lol I can understand that

Hello there!

I am also being banded on Monday. I have been using Syntha 6 from GNC. At first I bought the chocolate peanut butter then went back and bought the strawberry and the banana. I have been using them for the last 2 weeks. I tried Muscle Milk and didn't like it at all!

Good luck with your surgery. :)

Becareful when & if you buy the muscle milk, because there are two kinds. Get the Lowfat-Lite/Low Carb one. I've tried the Unjury, Muscle Milk Low Fat, Designers Whey, & EAS-Low Carb. The one that I like is the EAS. They sell it in bulk @ Sam's Club. All of the above are on my list from the Bariatric's Surgeon's office...

Also be very careful by just choosing any Protein Shake, because some are loaded with extra sugar & carbs. Your surgeon's office should have a list for you. Here is a list of what my surgeon's office & nutritionist recommended...EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control/Designer Whey/Carb Minders/Body Fortress/Isopure-Zero Carbs/Pure Protein shake (21 grams)/Unjury/Nectar/Nitro-Tech/NVE Stacker 2-Protein water/MyoPro whey by EAS/Precision Engineered Whey/Muscle Milk LIGHT (15grams)/Cytomax Protein (1/2 bottle is one serving)...........

SLIM FAST OR ATKINS shakes ARE NOT AN OPTION!!!! - Badnews per my Doctor.

I hope this list helps. Have a great night all of you Lap-Band Buddies

I use low carb slim fast premade shakes..20 grams of protein and taste pretty good.

Hi! I'm 10 days into a pre-op liquid diet, so choosing a Protein that was good was very important. I was told from my nutritionist that the TYPE of protein is of utmost importance. Whey protein ISOLATE is what is best for those with bands. From what I remember, if you read the ingredients on the muscle milk package, it includes OILS. That was enough to gross me out. Nutritionist strongly advised against, but that was my experience, yours may say otherwise.

There's a mom-and-pop GNC-type store near the doctors office that gives patients 10% off for life, since we're going to be on a shake a day forever. They let me try a bunch of flavors before committing to purchase the giant tub of powders. I ended up with Syntrax Nectar in Cappuccino, Iso-100 in Gourmet chocolate, and IsoFlex in Chocolate Peanut Butter. I also bought a bunch of single serve packets in flavors like lemonade, cherry, pina colada, dreamsicle. Jay Robb powders are chunky, no matter what I did to them.

I like to combine a scoop of Cappucino with a half scoop of chocolate, and it tastes like a mocha frapp. Low cal, NO SUGAR, and I'm pretty sure no carbs.

Everyone's tastes are different, I only liked unjury's chocolate, the rest nauseated me.

Good luck to you!

GNC Pro Performance® AMP Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60™ - Chocolate

I'm not even ON pre-op yet but I've taken the above Protein shake after a great workout and it's delicious - it can be expensive but GNC sometimes has a buy one get one and if it's in the first 7 days of the month you will also get 20% off if you're a gold card member - I got both bags dirt cheap - one strawberry and one chocolate --- they are 280 calories for "60" grams of protein and only 1 fat gram!

Can't beat it!!

After trying many (from powder to premade) I have come to the conclusion that EAS Myoplex Lite tastes the best (the chocolate). It doesn't have an aftertaste. In fact it tastes just like chocolate milk.

The other thing I like about it is that I can run into any Target or Walmart and buy it.

I still drink one or two a day and have been banded for about 6 weeks now. Its been my breakfast every day (its something easy to grab on the way out of the door)

For ready to drink I like Premier brand (chocolate) from Costco: 160 cal 30 g of protein. Great for the first week after surgery when it's harder to get stuff down. Also use it as a prework out snack now and occationally for breakfast on the go.
