Drinking after surgery

Recommended Posts

I had surgery a week ago today and have a question. I started out drinking out of medicine cups for the first couple days and then I switched to just sipping my drinks.< /p>

Does Water go right through the band when you are sipping or does it gather in the band then go down? I am assuming that it goes right through?

How about Protein Shakes? Do they do the "backed up drain effect"?

I am scared to drink too much at once but I am still trying to get my 50g of Protein and 64 oz of liquid down.

Hi

I had surgery yesterday, and as soon they gave me my "lunch" I started sipping and taking it easy but I noticed that I could drink like I did the day before. I asked my doctor and he told me that is because I have no restriction yet and the Water or Clear liquids would go "down the drain", Like a funnel I guess, but he told me to keep drinking ounces a time to make the habit until I get my restriction.

I don't know how I will feel with full liquds though. Good luck in your journey.

You too and congrats on your surgery!

I think I am too scared to drink anything more than an oz at a time because I don't want to mess anything up. I've come too far to mess something up!

How are you feeling today?

It is a funnel effect - I can feel it trickling down through my stomach!

I really like drinking the super whey Protein shots...they are 2 oz. and can drink in 3 sips...26g Protein and I'm good to go. I do have a fear of beginning to eat mushies on the next stage. That should be interesting! :rolleyes2:

Where did you find the 2 oz shots?

Do they taste ok?

I am glad I am not the only one worried! I feel like I am being overly cautious.

Like I see lots of people eating mashed potatoes, etc but I do not think thats healthy to eat starches like that. I think I will stick with vegetable Soups and such, well blended of course. Plus shakes.< /p>

I get them at Walmart by the pharmacy where they sell the slimfast. It's called Body Fortress Super whey Protein Shots and come in different flavors. I buy at least 12 (they are about 1.97 each) and like the fruit punch flavor.

They take a day or so to get used to because they are very sweet but after a couple of days you don't care. Don't refrigerate though - they turn into almost a jello-y consistency. I have at least 2 a day to help meet my 65g Protein requirement.

Thank God I feel great. Of course the incisions hurt but nothing I can't handle. My husband just made me the best chicken broth ever. So far so good. :rolleyes2:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
