Newbie Here - Band date is 9/23/10

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My name is Trish. I started this journey in Jan. 2010. I am currently on the liquid diet..A Big Yucky lol!! I am so excited to finally have my surgery date on 9/23. I have done my preop and now just counting the days. I currently weigh 222. I started at 232 in January. I am really having a hard time with the liquid diet. I am doing it and not cheating, but I am a very picky eater and I hate drinks like slim fast, energy drinks, etc...Does any one know why the liquid diet is required before surgery? Anyway, I have 2 more days of this & then it is clear liquids...It is hard to do this & work. I am having trouble staying focused lol. Any ideas?

I'm new also and haven't been banded yet, but have been to all my pre- classes except one, that I go to tomorrow. It is my understanding that they make you do that to make your liver smaller so it's easier to access the stomach during surgery. This sounds strange to me, but apparently that's it. Hope that helps ya ;o) you can do this one "yucky" step at a time and it'll get better...right? ;o)

Hi there. I was banded a week ago and want to encourage you as tomorrow is your big day. You are going to be so pleased you went on the liquid diet as it does affect the weight and size of your liver and makes the procedure that much easier and quicker for your surgeon. So, God bless - it's the Spring of your new life! :rolleyes2:

Congrats & Good Luck tomorrow!! You will be so glad you made the decision. And the liquid diet is to shrink your liver so it's not in the way for surgery. I had to do 2 weeks before surgery and after the first couple of days it was just routine. My friend had to only do 2 days and she is having all kinds of trouble with soreness I guess because they had to move her liver out of the way....

The best tip I can give you for after surgery is to get moving. I had to stay overnight for insurance purposes and as soon as came out of the haze of anesthesia after being in my room I started walking the halls, slowly, but still. It will help with gas pains and help the soreness because you won't just be laying down.

Congrats on surgery tommorrow Trish!! I think we should really keep in touch. We have almost the same BMI and my surgery is Oct 5th. Due to a lower bmi it has been hard to get my insurance to approve my surgery ...but finally after all this time...it is really happening. I cannot tell you how excited i am for the future. Ive just started my liquids yesterday...its not esy but will be worth it i know. Good luck tommorow. please let me know how everything goes.

Good Luck on your surgery tomorrow! I was banded today and it has been wonderful being in Bandland so far! I did exactly what I was told to do on the pre-op diet, and my surgeon told me my liver was in awesome shape for surgery. I have had no real pain, just some discomfort. No nausea at all, but I'm beginning to get some gas pain in my shoulder.

Please keep us posted. Best Wishes for an easy recovery.

Hi Trish and congrats - you've done it!!! Great that you're part of the September Sweeties and best of luck for a great journey to your goal. It's liquids still but remember your tummy has been shoved around, strangled and stitched. It needs to be allowed to rest, be still and have very little demanded of it so stick to those clear fluids and you'll heal QUICKLY. I'm talking to myself as much as I am to you. Look forward to hearing how it went. Best wishes, Des/Bunny

Well what a week!! I was banded on the 23rd and was in horrible pain and could not keep anything down but was sent home. On the 29th they took out my Fluid fill and said I was just swollen. But later that night i was put in the hospital due to being extremly dehyrdated & in pain.:) I today feel much better and am back to work this morning. I am stiff & sore, but not going to complain, cause last week I thought I was dying.:D I was asking myself why did I do this. I have lost weight, but not the healthy way. The doctor said yeah you lost 21 pounds since the begining of your journey. So guess they were trying to cheer me up lol.:)

Glad to hear you are feeling better. That is alot to go through in your first week of being banded. I'm surprised they put a fill in at all, I guess every doctor is different. My doctor leaves the band empty to allow time for all the swelling and healing to take place. My first fill wasn't until 6 weeks after my surgery. Good luck and keep us posted.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
