Lurker coming out of lurk mode for some support and a question. I went to my 1st appt in August and was told insurance covers my lap band 100% (YAY!) but I have to do a psych eval, nutritional appt (no biggie) Except the worsed of the worsed 4 months of diet recording (Boo!) I am so about instant gradification (hence needing lap band) and was so hoping to have this done before the holidays. I know I am whining because I am blessed to have it covered.

Okay so on to the question. My diet is great right now trying to stay around 1300 calories but strangely enough I am terrified that I will lose too much weight and insurance will not do it. Did anyone else have this fear and/or can that happen? Am I just being paranoid?

Hey!

This might not be how it works for everyone, but here is my experience for what its worth.

The lowest I dropped my calories was around 16-1800 a day.

Now for the first two or three weeks, I lost weight like crazy.

Then around the middle of the third week my body went into major lockdown as far as losing goes and plateaued.

It picked up after that again, but I lost very slowly but at a more healthy rate of 1-2 pounds a week.

So if you have great success to begin with, and are losing rapidly, don't think that it will stay that way. It's all about how your body takes to the change in your diet and how it adapts.

I wouldn't worry about losing too much for your insurance not to cover. I'd also suggest having a few mid-to-high days because 1300 calories isn't leaving much for energy. Shocking your body can reset your metabolism, so try that maybe once a week.

I know how you feel! I went through all the requirements to get approved for the procedure and it has been three weeks, and NOTHING! I called my doctor's office a few times, but no luck. so, I called the insurance network and they said it's still pending approval.

I don't think you will lose too much weight to not be able to get the lap band. Good luck!!

I hope that you have done your research on the lap band. For anyone wanting a quick fix....its just not gonna happen! The lap band is a tool to help you lose weight. It requires work both with your body and your brain. Remember there are two orgin involved with the weight loss. People have been know to gain weight with a lap band. ie: your eat poorly like milkshakes, etc and it won't work for you. It is slow steady process with gradual weight lose over a long period of time. Sorry if I sound negetive but I sometimes worry that people go into this thinking its easy and the weight will just fall off you. That being said it was the smartest thing I ever did and I have no regets. I hope you acheive all your weight loss too and remember it takes time.

thanks for the info and support! Tyler when you talk about resetting your metabolism....does it slow it down? Babs - sorry you are in waiting too. I am so impatient so I feel your pain :(. Talktime - you weren't being negative you were being honest thanks! I have a few friends who are banded and are a great support and inspiration but all paid out of pocket so I don't have any resources for insurance covered bands.I have done tons of research and I love reading banded blogs. I hate to say it but my main reason for doing the lap band is so I can run again. I miss doing 5ks and I know this will be a great motivator. I don't have to be skinny to do them just healthy! I have a long term secret goal of doing a triathlon. (not so much secret anymore eh?)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
