Hi everyone! I'm Debbie, and my big day is 11/23, two days before Thanksgiving! I will be having turkey broth on turkey day. :crying: Wow, there are so many people getting banded in November, I will have to go back and catch up on all the posts. I read about halfway through but just wanted to chime in to say that I start my 2-week pre-op shakefest tomorrow. I bought BariEssentials from the dr.'s office. I REALLY hope it doesn't suck, since this stuff is so expensive and I didn't take the time to look around for other options.

One year ago this month, I had brain surgery. Came through with flying colors. A week later I was back in the hospital with 3 blood clots in my lungs. Long story short, I am happy (and lucky) to be alive, and to be what I consider "moving on with my life." Last year the doctors told me that my blood clots were due to either birth control pills, or the surgery, or a combination. No one told me that the highest risk factor for blood clots is obesity. No one until the WLS doctor, that is. So while surgery is risky, I am reducing the risk by taking daily Lovenox (blood thinner) injections. And I am reducing my life-long risk by losing weight. Wish me luck, and I wish you all the same!:)

Hi all, I am going to be banded Nov. 16th and will start my liquid diet Nov. 11th. Getting a bit tense about it and having trouble sleeping, but overall I am excited to get this done! Thanks everyone for all of your posts within this thread and overall on this site. It is just so very helpful, especially when my normal reaction to stress would be to go eat something! :-) This site is a much better alternative to raiding the kitchen. All the best to everyone being banded this month, and if anyone wants to buddy up with me, please send me a pm. Cindy

Just got to work after my first pre-op appoint of the week. This morning it was with the Anesthesiologist. Not too bad. Means I am going closer to my day. I can't wait. As it gets closer though, I am getting more and more nervous. I am so glad we have this board.

I have just over 1 week to go now... 11/17. 1 week of the liver reduction diet is done and I have lost some weight.

Amazing how the butterflies will just hit all of a sudden when I realize how close I am.

BANDED! Finally I just got home from the hospital. I am sore but its ok. Worst thing is when you wake up after the surgery. My throat is sooo dry and my head hurts like hell. I was hungry and craving for some ribs. But all they gave me is Protein Shake Jello broath and Water. I get full fast but i get hungry faster. weird!!!

I am scheduled for the procedure next Monday the 15th... don't have too much to say at this point. A little apprehensive still about the entire procedure, but I have come to grips with my food addiction and realize that this is probably the only way that I will have any prolonged loss.

I am in the Portland, Or area.. anyone else out there closeby? Let me know.

Hi Nov. Bandsters! had my surgery on the 1st. I went home the sme day. I have been able to drive since Thursday. That made things much better. I am still having some pain after eating in my shoulder and neck, I think its gas, in the puree stage of eating. Not going to do Protein Shakes for meals anylonger. Remember the idea is to fill up and stay feeling full. If I drink my meal its defeating the purpose.

I'm also have some kind of rash on my stomach that itches. I think I may be having an allergic reaction to the super glue they put on the incisions. Anyone else have this problem? I am itching a lot at the incision sites too :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
