Hello All, i am home and was banded on aug 17th, everything went well and I also had a hernia repair. I am sore but no nausea or vomiting and the pain med is toradol i think and it has worked pretty darn well. I have put on 4 lbs though I guess it is swelling maybe or my bodies defenses to hold on for a bumpy rise maybe. I have faith it will start going the other direction though. thank you all for the support your all so lovely.

Congratulations. So happy for you. I'm only 7 days ahead of you so we can travel together. All the very best!

Hi I was banded on the 16 today on the scale I weigh the same as I did on Monday when I went in for the surgery, I have not lost one pd and still on liquids - when I left the hosp I was up 5 but now back to where I started I am hoping to jump on the scale and be down a bunch - kind of a bummer way to start- how r u feeling - I am still in pain at the port site but all in all on the mend. I was sick in the hospital but that only lasted 24 hours thank god , that was the worst.

Hi, I'm a fellow MUCH oldster, I just turned 64 and found out once I was way post-menopause that the weight not only kept coming on, but just stuck like glue, and turned to complete mush, as in, cellulite pretty much chin to toes. I found it extremely hard to lose- but I've been doing the pre-diet for 8 days and dropped around 8 lbs., but I am so sick of liquid shakes. I'm also surprised at how young some of these folks are because it's such a radical lifestyle change - but more power to them - and us.

Congreats & welcome. This is a great place for support and information. I was banded on July 19th & im 48 yrs young  Keep us posted how your doing.
Hi,how are you feeling? I am 56 and getting banded on aug 17th, that is older for sure! starting wt at banding well, now 238 and 5'1. really need to get it done.
Ah if you are old, then so am I and I am not ready to be! I was banded a little over a year ago, but did not really get started until last November, (I had a faulty port and had to have it replaced), so no you are not alone. Even though some days are hard, I would do it again in a minute. I feel it is a life saving thing for me, I was over 60lbs heavier and have gone from a size 24/26 to an 18. I am by no means done but I am very pleased with my slow steady progress. Best of luck.

I am 55 and other than being embarrassed and depressed about my weight I feel great and not old at all.

My couple of friends that know I had the surgery on 8/16 tease me about being a hot mess when I get to goal.

I still feel youthful that's why I decided to finally do this so that i can still enjoy myself while I have a glimmer of youth left.

Hey 50's are the new 40 and 40's are the new 30's and I guess it helps that I have a younger DH that I've been with for over 21 years.

Age is all in your mind and just a number if your healthy and fit

it's even better and that's what all of us "ladies of a certain age" are trying to achieve.

I wish you all the best.

Hi my name is Marie and I live in AZ. Have had trouble with my weight most of my life. i have about 90 lbs to lose. Today was the hardest part in reference to pain. Probably yesterday I was still a little out of it and the incision didnt hurt like they do today. Dr prescribed liquid pain med(hydrocodone) and dissolvable nausea meds that just melt in your mouth. I have been sleeping in my recliner because getting out of a flat bed is much too hard just now. I also had an hiatal hernia that was repaired at the same time. My throat is pretty sore. dr told me they would put in a breathing tube, but also a second tube to get the band through. My voice is still raspy and just been gargling with salt Water to relieve it.

Best of luck to all who have already been banded and those who are considering it.

and Tuesday was the first day of the rest of my life. I'm 50 years old, female. Any other "oldsters" out there? My starting weight was 314, was 289 on surgery day. Everything seems just fine so far.

Hi Ravey, I'm 64, also female, so I'm way more of an oldster than you and I wish I had done this years ago. Just banded 2 days ago, am in pain and worried. My start weight was around 254, lost 12 lbs pre-surgery, up 1 since. Hope all is well with you, welcome...

Hi, don't worry, I was banded on the 16th and I did not realize how much pain I would be in, but I have to say by wednesday this week I was really feeling better, just stay positive. I was up 5 pds after the surgery but it did come off the begining of this week. In a few days the worst will be over

I have been looking for someone older. I am 62 and wondering if I should go through with this. I'm 5"2 and 295. Everyone is so young and don't have much to lose.

I want to live longer and enjoy retirement. I wish you good luck and if you don't mind I will be checking in on you. Aug. 1 was my first visit. I go back to the Dr. tomorrow(Sept.1) to review all my test.

Hi,

I am 56 and was banded on august 17th, I also had a hernia repair and was sore that first week especially and after 2 wks was back to work this week and doing just fine, I wish I would have done it sooner too but am glad I did it now and am hoping to finally get off this 100lbs I need to lose. The average life expectancy for women is mid 80s now days and that means we get a couple of decades to be thinner and maybe even go longer! We may be able to escape diabetes, heart attacks and more joint pains and so on in our golden years so this is going to improve the quality of our lives ladies and gents! hooray!

Congrats everyone on being new bandsters!!!

I promise, the pain goes away quickly. I was so scared when I thought about how much pain I might have after surgery and it was not nearly as bad as I thought. It does ease up and pretty soon, you'll be 5 1/2 months out and you'll be LOVING your band!

Hi All, I am 53 and can't wait for my surgery this Friday, Sept. 3, 2010. Feel like it'll be a new "birth" day for me! Flying from Salt Lake City to San Diego, and having my surgery in TJ, Meheeeko at the Obesity Control Center by Dr. Martinez, who works side by side with Dr. Ortega. I have read so much about this in the last six weeks and feel very comfortable and content (so far) with having this done there. Anyone having lapband or has had it, should really read the book "Lapband For Life" by Dr. Ortega. It answerd so many of my questions.

Sorry everyone. I said Dr. Ortega, but meant Dr. Ortiz!! Duh. I always get Hispanic names wrong..

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
