August Rush in bandland!

Recommended Posts

Hey all. Glad everyone seems to be doing good.

The first week post op I lost 10 lbs, but now in the second week I think I am the same. It sucks. I have been eating Protein Shakes and Soups, and my calories have mostly been around 700. Yesterday I went down another pound, but then started on mushies so my calories went up to 1200 and today I went back up 3 pounds. It sucks because I have an appointment today. I swear that every single time I have gone in to be weighed I have been up 2 or 3 pounds on my scale that morning. It's like some cruel joke, lol.

BeachBunny, I went out to Friendly's the other day. We used to go out to eat 2 or 3 times a week and I hadn't been out since my surgery, plus I am still not working so I was getting bored. I had some Soup and some applesauce, and it felt good to feel normal again.

Got on the scales this morning, and I realized that I have lost over 50 pounds. When in the world did that happen?

Am I the only one that their clothes are getting to big, but I refuse to buy new ones just yet? I have 2 pairs of shorts that slip off when I walk, so I don't wear them any more. I know my body is changing. I can actually see it and feel it in the way my clothes fit, but there is a little part of me that is scared that I will gain all of that weight back.

I wish my doctor would give me a fill. I have to wait two whole months from my surgery date of 8/6 to get my first fill! My actual surgeon who did the surgery left the practice and joined one closer to his home so I am seeing someone new. He is not too bad, but I am annoyed I have to wait so long for a first fill. He is someone who likes to play it safe.

However, I still have managed to lose weight without any fills. I just naturally eat less at every meal and the pounds have been coming off. I think I eat less for fear of messing up the band, but in reality, I don't need that much food to feel satisfied, especially not in the amounts I was eating before surgery. WOW. Could I eat. lol.

Keep up the good work everyone!

Well Melissa, when I went and had my fill done yesterday, my Dr. said he is going to quit doing lapbands......I just thought wtf..Am I going to have to find another dr? I may just anyway as i was self pay and only get two more fills for free. He left me feeling very down. He said because too many complications with the band....I'm thinking I want a dr. that believes in the band and cares!

WTH!!! What a bummer. He just did the band on you and now he says that!!! Did he just come to that conclusion?

I would feel down too if my Dr dropped that bomb on me. I think you should ask him for a referral or hunt up a Dr yourself that is going to stand by the band.

I wonder what made him come to that conclusion?

I have been struggling lately with hunger and its been throwing me off so yesterday I made a nice pot of white chicken chili. I got the recipe from bariatriceating.com. I had a Protein Shake w/ a greek yogurt in it thins morning so I'm hoping that and the soupy chili will get me back on track.

MOO...I love the encouraging vids on YT. I'll check you out later.

I wish I had the nerve and the technical savvy to do a VLOG. I have seen that there is a need for more mature ladies to show that they can be successful with the band on YT.

Tylee...congrats on being 50lbs down  can't wait to be there.

Had my appointment with the nut today. According to their scale I am down 27 lbs, which coincides with my 3 lb weight gain from this morning. I can now eat soft foods, including fish, chicken, cottage cheese, yogurt, veggies and fruits.

So after the appointment we went to the mall since we drive an hour to the doctor but only spent 10 minutes there. I had forgotten to bring a Protein Shake, so we went to Ruby Tuesday for lunch. It was my first real meal since surgery and I was in a restaurant, yikes! I ordered Salmon Florentine, which is salmon topped with spinach and artichoke sauce. It was perfect because the fish was soft and the sauce made it even mushier. I shared with DH, so I only ate 1/3 of the salmon, and I had mashed cauliflower on the side. It was so nice to have a real meal again, but I was so nervous. It took me a long time to swallow my first bite, lol.

I also found out that I do have Fluid in my band, 4 cc's in 10 cc band.

wow, that's the smallest band I've heard of. That's cool.

I have the Realize band which is fully adjustable so there are no band sizes so I can't compare with any of you.

I am now in Band land (in Sept but still wanted to post in here lol)! I am excited to start this new journey. Other then slight chest/shoulder pain and of course tummy being tender I feel great! Doc told me I could go right to mushies if I wanted to but she would prefer me to stick to full liquids until I see her in 2 weeks...which I am more then fine with... Soups are way better then just clear liquids! I don't know what kind/size band I have..forgot to ask.

I need to go out and buy a good scale though. The one we have only goes up to 300 and now that I'm actually interested in weighing myself I need one that goes higher then that.

Beachbunny:

I believe my band is 10 cc. The Doc put two cc's in for a total of three cc's. I just don't want this feeling to go away:wink:!

At any rate, I get to go back in four weeks for another.

I am really ready to hit that sweet spot:eek:....I know, I know, patience prudence..but that it the hardest part!

I know everyone is different, but my appetite before "chauncy"(my band's nickname) was humongous (spelling?) and I really felt like such a looser because I had no control. At least now I feel like I have a little:biggrin:. It does seem like there might be a light at the end of the tunnel after all.

Peace out

Kelly:tongue:

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
