Taking Glucophage 1000mg post band surgery

Recommended Posts

I need advice regarding taking pills post surgery. I am on Glucophage 1000mg twice daily. I am worried about taking this pill after i am banded tomorrow. It is a rather large pill, which is scored so i can cut it in half. But even cut in half it is still big. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am also taking an number of smaller pills. I want to prepare myself for this.

I am taking them too as well as a pile of others, I asked my Doc about it and he said the pouch has liquid but no acids. so anything that will dissolve in Water will not be a problem but food will only be digested in the normal part of the stomach so it has to be small enough to fit through the restricted band after you get filled.

My surgeon thinks differently--I am not allowed to take any pill that is bigger than a pencil eraser. So anything I take either has to be crushable or in liquid form.

I was put on Metformin for PCOS and decided to get off of it because of the size of the pill. The PCOS should get better with losing weight so I felt ok with that decision.

I take 1000 Mg of Glucophage every morning. I cut mine in half. I had a problem one time.....just takeing it all to quickly. I take chewable vitiamins now, chewable Vitamin C and Tums for Calcium all this along with a protien shot in the morning.....as long as I take one....pause....sip......take another one....etc etc..I am fine. I take the chewable with me so I can chew up on the way to work.

I was on 1500 mg of glucophage before surgery. I stipped taking it at surgery and have not needed it since. Being banded seems to help stablize my blood sugar pretty quickly and eating right helped, of course. On glucophage my A1C was 6.8. Now my A1C is 6.3 on NO MEDS!

There also is a liquid called Riomet. Not bad tasting. If you need to continue, ask your doc for this med until you lose enough to go off it totally.

Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
