BCBS of Alabama - State Employee

Recommended Posts

I am schedule to attend the seminar on August 30. I recieved my packet from the doctor's office regarding the lap band procedure. I don't have to go through the crazy doctor or the six month weigh ins.

I currently weight 278 with a BMI of 43. I don't have any major health problems except joint pain. However, I have a family history of diabetes, high chloesterol and heart disease. My brother was recently diagnosised with diabetes. So, its getting closer. My mom is on several medications blood pressure, Fluid pill, chloesterol, depression and sleeping medication. My father has a heart condition.

My main reason for waiting the procedure is because I have a little girl who is means the world to me and I want to be here to see her grow. I want to do whatever necessary. I have tired several diets Weight Watcher, Atkins and calorie count without any success that lasted. I would lose the weight then gained it right back plus some. I want to have an active life with my child. I have been overweight my whole life and I am tired of it. I want to have energy.

I guess what I am getting to is. I am praying that my insurance pays for my surgery except for my copays. does anyone know??

Hi Holly,

I'm going to the seminar this month, I have BC/BS of AL, PPO Preferred Care, I'm a County employee. I'm not sure exactly what they cover, I'm going to go to the seminar and let them handle the paperwork because I'm sure they're going to know exactly what they're doing.

I'd love to keep in touch because I've only found one local person (a different county) on here. You can message me here or at sunflowerblonde@hotmail.com

Good luck!

I have BCBS Alabama through a private employer. They did cover the surgery but I had to do a 6 month supervised diet. I had a BMI over 40 with no comorbidities other than pain. It literally took 15 minutes from the time my bariatric surgeon (Dr. Andrew DeWitt) put in the paperwork until I got approved.

My experience was nearly identical to Stateofzen. I was approved the same day after the 6mos of WL monitoring. I only paid $150 COPAY to the hospital and $400 to the surgeon. BCBS covered the rest!

Good luck, everyone!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
