Looking for September 2010 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Cathy, I'm going to try that, I always call from

my cell I'm going to call from my home phone.

Hi Gale,

Did you have any luck today?

As everyone here knows, after days and days of calling, emailing I got my surgery date yesterday for Sept 10. Then last night (after 6pm) I got a call from the doctors office that they might have another day available if I was interested but would not know for sure until this morning.

Because I was doing the pre-op diet already and have lost 5lbs they offered to change my surgery date. My pre-op appointment will remain as Aug 26 at 3pm, and then I'll go for surgery the following morning at 8am. So now that I'll be banded Aug 27, can I still be in this group? This has been my family.

Hi Cathy, great news for you! And us! :cursing: Now we get to hear your story first and it can prepare us...soooooo we simply won't let you go anywhere else!!!! :(

I am doing well on my pre surgery diet...lost 9 pounds in 2 weeks but it is VERY hard at times and I have to say: "thank you" to this forum and my September buddies. Many, many times when I wanted to reach for a handful of carbs I started to go to the computer and read the entries and was able to "let go".... support is soooooooooooooooooooooo important! Thank you to everyone who posts! Have a great day! :frown:

We consider you in our group as long as you keep posting. Welcome and glad to have you.
No still have not heard. I was going to his office today, but Saturday we have a support group meeting I will talk to him then.

Good morning Gale. You have so much patience with them. I hope you hear from them soon and with GREAT news.

So last night I decided I better start getting ready, so headed to the store with my pre-op list, post-op list and Vitamin list. Oh and my husband. Started with the first isle in the store - the drug isle. We spent (I kid you not) at least an hour trying to sort through all the bottles of Calcium looking for what is on my list. Must be around 500mg, chewable or liquid. My husband got restless, I got aggravated and we left empty handed.

So here is my dilemma. My doctor wants me to take a 500mg Calcium pill 3x a day. My sheet says that our body can only absorb approximately 500mg increments of calcium at a time. So then why do so many companies sell them in 600 or 1000mg per tablet? The other problem I ran into with the calcium is that they all are over the normal daily recommended dosage of Vit D. I saw one company that boasted 250% of the daily recommended dosage of Vit D per table. And the doctor wants me to take 3 of these a day and that would be 750% more than I should take. Does anyone know what the ramifications are for taking such high dosage of Vit D over the long haul?

What are you guys doing for calcium? Help:confused:

Cathy,

Wow - never knew there was so much to think about with Calcium and Vitamins. Haven't been to my pre-op class yet so I will be sure to ask their guidelines.

As far as your surgery date goes, WOOHOO! You can officially be our trailblazer - and, by default, the "answer-er" of all our varied questions!

Blessings to you as you prepare!

Hey Everyone.. love reading all that is going on with everyone.. but gotta be honest, as I read more, the more I get confused. My surgery is set for 9/1. My pre-op is Friday the 20th and my class is tomorrow night. I have not started the pre-op diet yet but am certainly watching what I eat. I spoke to my PA about how everyone with later dates than me has already started and he did not seem that concerned. I am assuming that I am starting full liquid diet Sat am ( oh joy!! ) but am excited to get this party started if ya know what I mean!! This September group is FANTASTIC and a huge help to someone like me who is basically clueless!! Thanks everybody!!

Oh and Cathy.. I agree Hell Ya we want you in this group.. You will be able to fill us in what to expect!! Love that.. and GOOD LUCK!!! Looking forward to your post op blog!! Happy Liquids!!

Hi Cathy, Maybe you and look up different brands of Vitamins

over the internet before you go shopping, and also find what

store carries the brand that you are looking for.

What other things did you have on your pre-op list.

I'm still waiting but I can be happy for the one that are moving

on to a better and healthier life.

Hi Cathy,

Not sure about the ramifications of taking more Vit D, that's something you probably want to ask your dr. I was going over a CD that my dr. provided and one of the things they suggest to have peppermint extract for after surgery (at home) helps with the nausea. Dr. said just sprinkle a bit on ice cubes (might want to ask your dr. too) :) :smile2:

Still waiting for the doctor's office to call me with a date. I guess I should be patient since I just got approved last Friday and they did tell me they would call me in a week with a date for Sept. I just haven't started with the Protein drink and I know I need to.:smile2:

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
