Other women who have had a radical hysterectomy before lap band surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I had a radical hysterectomy a year ago. I recovered from that after about two months. I lost some as my body was in pain, but gained all that I lost and more (I know--an often-told story).

The question I have is this: do those of you who have had radical hysterectomies/have gone through menopause having any issues that non-estrogen-deprived women *don't* have?

I have had not one menopausal symptom (a miracle). The doc says it's partially because of my weight; my adipose tissue is creating an estrogen-like substance, but not in any great amount. I'm also darn lucky.

If/WHEN I lose the weight, will I get hit with menopausal symptoms I've thus far avoided? It won't stop me from going through with this, but oy gevalt...

I think everyone will be different on this one. I was pretty much done with surgical menopause by the time I got banded. I sometimes still had night sweats. Those have decreased since the major weightloss. ( 20 years since hysterectomy, 10 years since ovariectomy)

I had a hysterectomy 11 yts. ago. and was on HRT until 3 yrs. ago. Can't say I ever really had any menopausal symptoms but sure had them before the hyster! What I have noticed is over the last 10 - 15 yrs is the increase in my sweating especially with my weight going up gradually over the years. It is confined to my head and face and is medically called cranio-facial hyperhydrosis. I mean I DRIP! Literally! I can sweat profusely in 30 degree weather if I'm moving about. When I mentioned to my surgeon that I was looking forward to the day I wouldn't sweat so much, he said it was NOT related to my weight and most likely would not decrease. I've wondered if anybody else had this problem and found the sweating decreased after losing.:bored:

I too have had a hysterectomy, and although I still have my ovaries, I have had menopausal symptoms. My dr. referred to them as post-surgical ovarian failure. My weight increased by 20 lbs. almost immediately after the hyster and has since been impossible to remove anything gained, resulting in even more weight gain. I am too young to safely take oral HRT until age 50 and HRT Patches burned my skin. I really hope that a lack of hormones will not hinder my weight loss after lap-band!!! :bored:

I was, as I put it, "hollowed out." I had nasty pre-cancerous uterus, bleeding ovaries and over 2 pounds of fibroids removed. I'm hoping that my being "post woman" (how I sometimes feel) won't affect my ability to lose weight.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
