Dr. Stan Hoehn - Dr. Hoehn experience.....

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else find it a bit odd how few times you actually see the doctor? Guess that is a great way to keep the fee down for self pay, but it a bit concerning. Everyone is SO nice and seems knowledgable, but you think I would see the doctor more than three times............

Yeah, I've noticed that I NEVER see Dr. Hoehn, but maybe it's better that way. The few times that I have seen him, he's been really cold, and I don't think it's anything he can control--that's just how he is (in my experience, surgeons are not people-persons). Anyway, I like seeing Tim because he's a lot easier to talk to, he is usually the one to answer pages (unless it's an emergency), and is always willing to answer my questions.

I know it's a bit startling at first, because they tell you how this will be a lifelong thing, but you get used to it.

I had one Preop appointment with Dr. Hoehn and then chose to use another surgeon. The Dr. that did my Surgery sees me at every Dr.s Appt. Does Dr. Hoehn do your fills? I find it very strange that you are not seeing him at each appointment. I know others that have used other Dr.s besides the one that did my surgery and all of them see their Dr. at each appointment. This is the only Dr. I have heard of that does not see his patients at each visit. This makes me even more assured I made the correct decision with going to a different surgeon. Sorry you are experiencing this.

I had one preop appointment with Dr. Hoehn and found him extremely cold. I could not see myself in an on going relationship with him. I chose to go with a different surgeon and am very happy with my choice. He is very Kind and Caring. I see him at every Dr.s appointment I have. He does all my fills and sees me for any complications I have. I have talked to several other people that chose to use my surgeon that first saw Dr. Hoehn...and all of them had the same experience I did and chose not to use him for the same reasons. I also have several friends that used other Surgeons besides the one I used for their Lapband and each and everyone of them see their Surgeons at every Appt. I think Dr. Hoehn is the only Lapband Surgeon that does not see his patients PostOp.

Hello,

I was just banded by Dr. Hoehn and I found him to be great. I don't think he is real talkative but not at all cold to me. I have seen him 3 times before hand and he told me yesterday that he would see me 7-10 days afterwards. He actually came into the waiting room to find my husband when it was done. I went to several seminars and found Dr. Hoehn's to be the best. He is alot more strict post diet than some and he wants me up walking (brisk walking outside or on treadmill) as soon as I feel good. I haven't had any gas or real pain so far. All the staff at the hospital said I picked the best for what he does which really helped with the nerves. It was the best choice for me.

I know this is an older thread, but some info may be helpful to people searching, who wouldn't reply.

I was banded by Dr. Hoehn several years ago -- back when he did the fills himself. I miss that part of it, and when you pick a surgeon in part because of their role in your post-op & long term care, it's a bit of a surprise when that changes. But I understand it.

He is quiet but I did not find him to be cold. Not particularly warm, but just - factual and professional. I personally respect that. I don't need a surgeon togive me warm fuzzies, I need him to successfully perform my surgery. I know about 40 other people who have had surgery with him (Dr. Hoehn's office, if you're out there, how about every 20 referrals gets you a free plastic surgery procedure?!) and they all have similar opinion.

It is pretty standard for him to update the waiting family post-op. He did it with both of my surgeries, and the other 3 surgeries I have attended for other people.

I have not spent much time in his office (except for 1 visit this year, and 1 in 2009). They were still in the Georgetown building when I was having the bulk of my office visits. I do not know who is currently included in his office staff. His nurse used to be a wonderful lady named Billie. I'm pretty sure she left at one point, but I've been told she has since returned. There were some downright unpleasant people in his office, too. People because of whom he lost business, and who led to patients seeking their aftercare from other surgeons. I believe they are no longer there but can't promise it.

About a year after banding I had Dr. Hoehn take my gallbladder out, and will likely be having another procedure with him before the year is over. I have good insurance and a wide range of surgeons to choose from, and don't feel any sense of obligation to him, so to me it says a lot that he gets my repeat business.

Wheetsin (and others):

Thanks for reminding me that this thread is out there--I had completely forgotten about ti! You make a lot of valid points in your post and I'd like to add to my original post now that I have another year under my belt. Most of the above-mentioned stands true for my initial surgery, I was disappointed that he didn't speak to my parents after the surgery and I do wish that he was a little...hmm...what's the word? Um, I guess we'll go with personable. I had surgery when I was 21 and it was my first major surgery, I was nervous, I didn't know what to expect, and it would have been nice to have a little more hand-holding, but you're right, the most important part of a surgeon is their ability to operate and he does a mighty fine job at it. As my two year anniversary is quickly approaching, I can say that I have had an extremely pleasant experience with Dr. Hoehn and his staff. A year after my surgery, Dr. Hoehn was the one who took out my gall bladder and he was nothing but caring. He performed my surgery on New Year's Ever and gave my mom the full report after my he finished my procedure. More recently, he performed an EGD on me and it seems like each time I see him more and more of his personality comes out and he really is a wonderful and caring person. So, I suppose my intent in posting this is to reflect on my experiences with Dr. Hoehn and give a fair representation of the surgeon that he is. I would recommend him to anyone in a heart beat. Yes, he is busy and you see him only a few times, but if you are having a problem and Tim can't address it, Dr. Hoehn is more than happy to sit down with you and explore every possible option. Not only do I completely trust Dr. Hoehn, but I also have had a very positive experience with Tim and cannot say enough good things about him.

Best of luck to all of those out there who are following this thread.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
