I was banded on 2/3 and I had the feeling of needing to burp but couldn't. That feeling went away as the days went on. I had the tight chest/breastbone feeling as well. It is swelling from the surgery and some gas. You sound normal. Just keep searching the threads and if you really get concerned about anything give your doc a call. Welcome aboard!

Hi there!

I was also banded on 3/1/10. I can't burp either, but I've been farting like crazy! LOL! I've read on here that its one or the other. Remember to take sips of Water. I forgot once and took a big gulp....oh boy...it was a very uncomfortable feeling. Each day will get better. Yesterday was rough for me, but I feel much better today. Remember...one day at a time!

I was banded Feb 18 (2 weeks ago) and experienced exactly the same sensation. If it's any consolation, two weeks on and I am now belching like a trooper, LOL. Relax, what you're experiencing is normal - it just feels like nothing you've ever experienced before. It will quickly get a lot better. I'm back to eating regular food and feeling normal hunger, although still satisfied with a lot less than I used to. I still expect that to change over the next couple of weeks before my first fill - expecting that as my stomach continues to heal I'll be able to eat more than I am now - which is not good - which is why a fill is going to be needed.

So just rest and try not to dwell on your symptoms. It'll all be worth it in the end!

Hi there,

I was banded on 2/26, so only the Friday before you. It sounds like burping and full feeling for describing is the air from going under. It's going to take a couple of days to work itself way out. What I did is slept elevated in a chair or in my bed with tons of pillow underneath. You don't want that air to get stuck in your chest and lower stomach and that's what happens when you lie flat, the air just evens out instead of just heading up. I'd try that. If it continues after the weekend, I suggest calling your surgeon and asking about gas relief pills.

Additionally, I was able to drink absolutely normal since my surgery. Just feel more full quicker. But, liquids should eventually feel more confortable to drink. Maybe your throat is still sore from the breathing tube they put down your throat???? Or your body is really uncomfortable with all that air in there.

Best of luck with everything!!!:smile2:

The burping feeling is because the area around the band is still swollen and are rubbing together. Popsicles may help with the swelling but it will take time.

I have a vlog with videos from my first week everday. And then every week after that. If you watch it you can see what I went through day to day. There is a link in my signature. Blogs and Vlogs really helped me to know what was coming.

Good morning!

I was banded on the 26th also, and definitely experienced the same things you are. You might want to try Gas-X strips, they were helpful for me...but your best bet to get rid of the gas is to walk around as often as you can. If you're only drinking cold fluids, switch to some warm broth once in awhile- that seems to be soothing and helps with the swelling.

Hang in there, hon, this really should pass of it's own accord. At 8 days postop, I definitely don't have nearly as much of the feeling you're describing. Still working on expelling gas, but it's no longer so uncomfortable. If that level of discomfort doesn't start to diminish in the next couple of days, though, a call to your surgeon makes sense.

Hope you feel better soon!

Christine

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
