HELP! I'm starving! I was banded a week ago, and my surgeon says I have to do 10 days of post-op liquids (like the pre-op diet). I'm feeling great, I'm back to work, and I feel like I can tolerate at least a little pureed food. I've read in some placed that most surgeons only make their patients do 4-5 days of post-op liquids. I'm scared of band slippage if I eat mushy foods too soon, but 10 days is a LOT! Anyone else have to do 10 days? Anyone out there start the mushy diet before they were supposed to and have any feedback? Thanks!

Are you one Clear Liquids or full liquids? After 3-5 days, I can move from clear to full, meaning like cream Soups but no chunks, sugar free pudding, and thin yogurt. After about a week of that, then I move to pureed food.

Good luck!

I'm supposed to be on Clear Liquids for 10 days, but I would LOVE some cream Soup or yogurt! I don't know why my surgeon says 10 days when most other seem to say a max of 5. It's been 7 days, and I may just cheat and have a thin plain yogurt or dilute with some skim milk. Thanks!

I was only allowed broth, herbal tea, diet Jello, and Water four the first four days. Today, I am allowed almost anything I want to eat (no mushy stage), but I am supposed to limit it to three meals per day, eat for no longer than 20 minutes, and no liquid w/meals or for 1/2 hour before or after. And, I am not allowed red meat or starches. But, basically everything else I am allowed to try. So far, I had cottage cheese, smoked salmon, and some soy milk... trying to focus on Protein first. For lunch, I think I will have some good deli meat I bought and some Soup. For dinner, I may test myself w/some chicken to see if I can tolerate that yet. I really want to make paella for Christmas Eve dinner and don't want my first time eating chicken to be in front of a big group (just in case it doesn't work out). Oh, even though I don't have a mushy stage, I've been warned to cut everything into dime sized bites and chew chew chew. So, basically, by the time it gets to my tummy it is mushy.

So I'm beginning to think that my surgeon's 10 day suggestion is really just a careful, precautionary move. thanks!

I was able to have mushy foods 2 days after being banded. I don't know how some of you do it for so long after. I would be absolutely starving.

I understand where you are coming from... I had liquids for 2 wks after my surgery... 14 days, not 10.. LOL but.. it is VERY important that you do what YOUR surgeon told you... you can't go by what others did.. every surgeon has their reasons for why they do the post op diet the way they do... I understand the hunger... but you must listen to your doctor and don't do anything different unless you talk to him/her and they tell you it's ok to advance to the next stage...good luck and congrats on being banded!!

I had liquids for 10 days. I could have broths (I made my own stock since it has so much more flavor), french onion Soup without the cheese, sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jello, Protein shakes, unsweetened juice, Crystal Light. I was hungry at the end but I survived. But I understand your comment that you feel fine and you want to advance your diet.

You could call your doctor and ask about mushy foods. I was supposed to go 14 days but had a post-op visit at 10 and they advanced me then because I was doing so well.

I had my band on dec 11th and have to have liquids only for 4 weeks that is anything that will go through a straw and I have been hungry but a bowl of Soup will usually fill me up. I can have jelly (jello) and mousse or shakes and soup. It is the hardest thing I have ever had to do.

After 4 weeks I can have fork mashed foods and meat that is no bigger than my little finger nail then at 6 weeks I can start to introduce more crunchy foods.

Its difficult but I am going to stcik with it because apart from anything else I have lost 22 pounds in the last 18 days so apart from the head hunger I am a happy bunny.

Has anyone actually experienced band slippage from advancing their diet too soon?

I was banded December 14th. And was on full liquids 2 weeks PRIOR to the surgery, clears for the two days PRIOR to the surgery, and have to be on full liquid for 4 WEEKS post-op. Then, after 4 weeks, I can move on to the pureed stage for another 2 weeks, before trying "regular" textures. So I'll be welcoming Feburary in a BIG way!

My wife and I were both banded on Dec. 19th... our surgeon had us on Clear Liquids the first 3 days... today is our first day of full liquids; adding skim milk, smooth yogurt, sugar-free pudding and our Protein shakes... we have to do this for 3 weeks, then we'll be ready for soft/mushy foods... 3 months after that, we can start to introduce solid foods again, one at a time...

everyone's program is different, so stay on track with what your doctor suggests... he or she knows best! B)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
