Protein post surgery??

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I have my surgery next Monday and I have some questions. Where can I buy the Isopure? Also, I've read some reviews on benefiber Protein Powder, and I'm not sure if I want to buy it, it only offers 6 g Protein. Does an unflavored whey protein powder mix in hot foods as well as it does with milk and Water? I'd like to add it to my mushy foods when I get to that point and I don't think vanilla and chocolate will go over so well with potatoes or blended chicken  Help please!!!!!!

Hello!

powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury has an unflavored Protein powder. The best way to add this or any other Protein to foods is to mix w/a little Water (1-2 oz) first then add it to your food. Also, add after you've cooked the food - I believe it loses some or most of its potency as a result of extreme temps.

I drink the various Isopure drinks to get away from the milk based Proteins - I find them really refreshing. By the way, these can be purchased at GNC and various Vitamin shops.

remember protein is KEY.

Hope this helps.

Isopure is available at the Vitamin Shoppe or GNC

the Beneprotein is what they brought to me in the hospital with my clear liquid buffet. I can't find it in the stores so I'm picking up the unflavored Protein powder from Whole Foods or Trader Joes.

One on the ladies in class attended was post op and she said each day she scooped in a baggie how much of that Protein powder she needed to take each day and she would mix in everything till it was gone for the day and she knew she met her protein needs.

If you're talking about the Isopure Protein powder - DON'T get it. It tastes AWFUL, the chocolate AND vanilla. I just returned 2 packages to GNC today and the guys there weren't surprised I said it tasted nasty. I heard the Fruit Drinks are really good, though.

The Unjury is pretty good.

And if you're looking for the chocolate ones, muscle milk light is good. Kinda expensive, but I would rather have something that tastes good than save a few bucks.

Isopure can be purchased at GNC. I dont recommend purchasing it in bulk though. Try a couple of the fruit flavors first. I thought they were waaaay too sweet. I couldn't get any down really.

The post-op diet is primarily focused on consuming an adequate amount of Protein. Protein is not stored by the body and sufficient quantities must be eaten every day - the daily minimum protein requirement is approximately 50 to 60 grams for women and 60 to 70 grams for men. During the recovery period, you will need to drink Liquid Protein supplements to make sure adequate protein requirements are met.

Lovjonz,

I'm scared! My surgery is at 3pm tomorrow afternoon. I know I've been prepping for this for months, and it's here, but I'm scared. I'm scared to wake up with no band because I have a big liver! I know I've mentally prepared myself for this day, but I'm still nervous! "I'm like 90% excited 10% scared, or maybe its 90% scared 10% excited!":w00t:

Good luck to you too!!

you will be fine - fear does nothing for you, although it is natural to have some anxiety but try not to let it overwhelm you. There is nothing more you can do at this point but just wait, keep visualizing yourself in your skinny jeans a year from now, or one month from now your health beginning to get better! Fear is is but a distraction...

I went to GNC and got the Isopure fruit drinks. THey only had a couple flavors without buying a case, so I tried pineapple/orange/banana and blue raspberry. THey're not so bad, they do have a funny aftertaste, but I think I'll be able to deal with it in order to get the Protein in through the next couple weeks. 40 g Protein in 20 oz, with no sugar and no carbs is tough to pass. I'm testing my theory today in order to sip this bottle throughout the day.

I bought a sample pack of Chike and I love them all, except for the vanilla. I also bought a sample pack of Unjury, which I will break open next. I got them both online. I am trying to get a list together of what I need to buy prior to my liquid diet, which starts on January 5, 2010. I found shots with 25 grams of Protein at Target that I like, in grape. After watching others go through this years ago and not caring about protein, I know the consequences are horrible, so find what works for you and keep track of the protein, carb and fat grams. Thank goodness this can be done online now!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
